I feel I need to preach PULSE.

The latter half is essentially DSotM live with bonuses and it is a lifelong listen for me.

[–] yesman@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago (2 children)

I saw the Pulse tour in '94. ^Yes^ ^I^ ^do^ ^drink^ ^Metamucil^

[–] Hobbes_Dent@lemmy.world 6 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

“Hey, wanna go see Pink Floyd in Vancouver?”

“Nah, next time.”

Is my 1994 shame.

[–] ikidd@lemmy.world 2 points 12 hours ago

I think I saw that show. So, nyah nyah.

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 1 points 10 hours ago

I had the chance to watch it in New Orleans and went to senior prom instead, like a complete idiot.

I never liked track 3. I skip straight to track 4 to save Time

😎

Just the time signature of "Money" is a work of art. You spend most of your time listening to 4/4 or 3/4 but Money does ~~5/4~~ 7/4 apparently! in a way you don't even notice

Edit - haven't listened to it in decades but now I think about it, the comments below are correct, it's 7/4 which is even odder

[–] uniquethrowagay@feddit.org 2 points 11 hours ago

Some of my favorite bands using lots of odd time signatures are Rush, Tool and Soundgarden. Check them out if you like that about Pink Floyd!

[–] Gold_E_Lox@lemmy.world 13 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

you should have a look into 'King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard'

they are extremely prolific and make use of many different odd musical techniques like wacky times sigs

[–] Skullgrid@lemmy.world 6 points 14 hours ago

I love that the odd thing you wanted to point out about Lizard is the time signatures.

[–] Mr_Dr_Oink@lemmy.world 7 points 18 hours ago

You should know. Money is in 7/4 thats 7 quarter notes in a bar.

1Dum 2dum 2.5da 3dum 4dum 5dum 6dum 7dum

[–] 0ops@lemm.ee 5 points 18 hours ago

Money is 7/4

[–] Sergio@slrpnk.net 58 points 1 day ago (4 children)
  1. "Speak to Me"
  2. "Breathe (In the Air)"
  3. "On the Run"
  4. "Time"
  5. "The Great Gig in the Sky"
  6. "Money"
  7. "Us and Them"
  8. "Any Colour You Like"
  9. "Brain Damage"
  10. "Eclipse"

Let those who are without sin deny that track 5 is the life-changer.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 7 points 19 hours ago

And there it is. slow clap

[–] Artyom@lemm.ee 1 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago) (1 children)

What AM I supposed to notice here?

[–] electricyarn@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago

The first two tracks are a) and b) parts of the same track on the vinyl.

[–] virku@lemmy.world 21 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Speak to me and breathe are often seen as one track. So I'm guessing time was the track they referenced here?

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 9 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I feel like the whole album is just 4 tracks.

  1. "Speak to Me" &"Breathe (In the Air)" ~~2. "On the Run"~~
  2. "Time" & "The Great Gig in the Sky"
  3. "Money"
  4. "Us and Them" & "Any Colour You Like" & "Brain Damage" & "Eclipse"

It’s the only way I listen to it.

[–] KingJalopy@lemm.ee 6 points 15 hours ago (2 children)

So just listen to the album. Got it.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 1 points 3 hours ago

Yes, but skipping On the Run every time. Unless I’m watching Wizard of Oz or Paul Blart Mall Cop 2.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 20 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Time is by far my favorite. Took listening to it as an adult for it to click, as a kid you were there for the music. Some young adults get it the first time though, and the look on their faces when they do...

[–] gbuttersnaps@programming.dev 5 points 19 hours ago

I was going to say Time plus Great Gig in the Sky has to be one of the best consecutive sets of all time.

[–] scutiger@lemmy.world 13 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

And then one day you find ten years have passed you by...

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 12 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

No one told you when to run. You missed the starting guuunnn

[–] DarkDarkHouse@lemmy.sdf.org 1 points 4 hours ago

The biggest oof.

[–] ReeferPirate@lemy.lol 8 points 1 day ago

9 & 10 for this guy

[–] gAlienLifeform@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Nah, the whole album is excellent, but track 3 was what put me on a path beyond my parents' classic rock collection and towards getting into things like Cut Chemist and J Dilla

The Great Gig is gorgeous, but On the Run changed my understanding of what music could be

[–] KingJalopy@lemm.ee 2 points 15 hours ago

You ever seen the video of David Gilmore making that track with his effects thingy? It was pretty neat

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 21 points 23 hours ago* (last edited 19 hours ago)

If you ever see the PF cover band Brit Floyd playing anywhere near you, I highly recommend seeing them. Brought me nearly to tears with how true to the source material it is. For those of us born too late for pink Floyd's heyday, it's damned close enough to the original.

They play the hits and knock them out of the park. The backup singer on Time was so amazing that the audience erupted into standing ovations and cheers like 3 times at the show I saw. And the laser light show was incredible, holy shit.

[–] Kalkaline@leminal.space 17 points 22 hours ago (2 children)

Smoke some weed, get some good noise cancelling headphones and put this album on start to finish. It makes for a great listen.

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 2 points 9 hours ago

Then Animals right after.

Dogs is so so so good.

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 5 points 19 hours ago (1 children)

And watch The Wizard of Oz?

[–] Vincent@feddit.nl 5 points 18 hours ago

As long as you mute it.

[–] Anti_Face_Weapon@lemmy.world 2 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

My first mushroom trip, I had this playing. It was then that I understood.

[–] CommissarVulpin@lemmy.world 1 points 11 hours ago

Hell, I listened to this album sober, and I understood.

[–] ReadMoreBooks@lemmy.zip 6 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

Live for today. Gone tomorrow. That's me.

[–] WhiskyTangoFoxtrot@lemmy.world 5 points 19 hours ago

Live for today, gone tomorrow, back two days later.

[–] Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 15 points 1 day ago

Supply Side Jesus: Track 6

[–] elekitty@lemmy.world 1 points 15 hours ago* (last edited 15 hours ago)

scared the fuck out of me the first time I heard it.

we used to do a lot of 'adult camping' (week long partying).. on sundays 'church' was a mix of pink floyd and the doors

preach

[–] superduperpirate@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

One of the weirder experiences in my life was taking a ghost tour in a haunted mansion and having this album spontaneously play in my head.
