MODERATORS

This seems a helluva week!

We someone narrowly averted a government shutdown, so there's that.

The rise of extremist content I see on Lemmy makes me wonder how safe it is to be here - am I going to go onto some kind of list even if I participate merely by arguing against it? It's making me seriously nervous.

Oh yeah, and it's Christmas!⛄

I don't think you have anything to worry about. There are extremes everywhere. We're just such a small community they seem to stick out more. It'll pass as the fediverse matures.

I dunno, lemmy.ml already has quite a lot, but now it seems everywhere. One post came out last night in tenforward@lemmy.world but got deleted. Probably all the social media networks have it these days so I might be overreacting.

Edit: but that is reassuring to hear from you, thanks:-).

It’s difficult to defederate with Lenny.ml given that’s the instance used for instance discovery and listing.

It is foundational. So long as this remains Lemmy rather than Sublinks...:-). But also with the cultural divisions going on now - which instead of lowering seen to have risen after the election - I am not sure how much it would even help. I see so much content across Lemmy that I do worry about surveillance wanting to take us down or some such in the future. Like this one:

But we'll see how things shape up in Donald Trump's America.

I’m not necessarily excited to find out

I REALLY hope that we don't. But... https://theintercept.com/2024/12/18/trump-fisa-surveillance-spying/ does so make me worry.

Then again, perhaps I shouldn't, for the simple reason that e.g. if being woke is a crime then I'd rather face the music than get off scott-free? :-P

I've got to do some Christmas shopping today, because I'm bad at doing that in advance 🤦

I hope not as bad as I am at writing posts:-).
