As someone who lives in the west while yes this is a very annoying thing its also very useful. I can simply say good things about China when i meet someone, and watch their reaction to find out if they are someone i should bother befriending or not. Saves a lot of time. Like if i mention the hundreds of millions of people China has raised out of extreme poverty, or how nice their high speed rail network is, and the person is immediately like "Actually the see see pee is evil, and bla bla bla" i can just mark them down as someone i wont bother speaking to again.

Oh yeah for sure, it's a great test to see if people are actually on the left or not.

Tbh to me the most common "western socialists" beliefs are:

  • recognize Cuba is a socialist state, doesn't do the same for DPRK, Vietnam and China
  • Marx, Engels, Lenin (sometimes), Che Guevara good, Stalin and Mao bad
  • "not true socialism"
  • idealizes failed revolutions like german revolution
  • against "totalitarianism" and "authoritarianism"

Yeah that's a pretty common version as well, where people have moved slightly past the succdem stage.

Socialists are actually pretty good at criticizing AES states, because we bother to study what the actual issues are and not just fall back on tired inaccurate stereotypes.

Materialists will always have a better grip on reality than idealists.

The reason the libs are consistently so out of touch is that the core feature of their worldview is a complete rejection of causal reality. By subjugating the importance of material conditions to ideology, they leave space for whomever to insert whatever narrative, probably bourgeois.

We launder better criticisms of AES precisely because we want to build socialism, seek to learn from its past failures, and use those lessons to build a stronger socialism. Materialist thinking is scientific, and as such, iteratively gravitates in the direction of truth. Idealist thinking is magical and is easily taken down many paths leading away from truth.

"Criticism" is when one invades socialist countries, coups democratically elected governments, installs fascist juntas, cheerleads starvation sanctions, massacres union leaders and create a century-spanning campaign of atrocity fabrications that infests countless academic institutions to this day

Just regular old "criticism" yessiree
