It's a metaphor for the intellect. A hundred competing thoughts, like writhing snakes. You are frozen by indecision.

But that's mythology for you. Literalised metaphors and vice versa.

Likely the horcruxes. Or, getting turned to stone is a euphemism and voldemort is impotent due to his experiments, which we do have some evidence for.

She had sex with Poseidon (or was raped by him) in Athena's temple so Athena cursed her. But her parents were gods so I don't think she was without power before she was cursed. Even if she was mortal.
