This saddens the hell out of me. I'm doing what I can to keep my impact minimal but still. To be alive, to engineer, hurts the planet if you're not very very careful.

Is there life elsewhere on the universe?

Most likely

Does it move?

Shoot it

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 0 points 6 days ago

Just think about how much different life is just here, alone. I can't believe that there's absolutely nothing else out in the universe when there's so much variety of life here.

[–] metaStatic@kbin.earth 47 points 1 week ago

we continue to look for intelligent life in the universe because we have yet to find any here

"Stop shaving you don't have a beard"

Corpseing.

[–] troyunrau@lemmy.ca 16 points 1 week ago

We can't even agree on the definition of life (within the context of the search for life). Largely we've settled on: whatever definition helps win grants!

SUFFER NOT THE ALIEN TO LIVE

[–] thevoidzero@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago (1 children)

This simply means the only reason we search life in other places is to take those places for ourselves.

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Imagine what alien flesh would taste like! Mmmmm😋

Sno for the Sno-Cone?

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Well yeah, we have to find it before we can kill it.

[–] Thorry84@feddit.nl 8 points 1 week ago

I'm from Buenos Aires and I say kill em all!

[–] lugal@sopuli.xyz 5 points 1 week ago

There is a reason we direct antennas to detect intelligent live away from earth

[–] Ahrotahntee@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 week ago

Yes, absolutely. Sapient life? Most likely.

[–] deegeese@sopuli.xyz 7 points 1 week ago (3 children)

But will we ever have the chance to kill them?

[–] Spacehooks@reddthat.com 1 points 6 days ago

How can we sleep at night knowing they are living peacefully without democracy!

[–] kata1yst@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago

Unless we can find a way to regularly exceed the speed of light... Not directly.

But Von Neumann probes might be the most efficient method of mass murder ever conceived!

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 1 points 1 week ago

Probably not, fortunately for them.

[–] SoftTeeth@lemmy.world -5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The US is currently descending into a fascist theocracy.

That's just a fact.

[–] oldfart@lemm.ee 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Congrats, you dragged US politics to a post that's about something else! 🏅

[–] SoftTeeth@lemmy.world -1 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Literally everything is political.

You'll realize this when you grow up

The results of the US descending into a fascist theocracy will result in tangibly less climate action.

[–] oldfart@lemm.ee 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I cam't wait to be a grownup like you!
