Rules (2024-08-30)
- This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
- No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
- Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
- No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism.
- Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
- If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
- Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in !yurop@lemm.ee. (They're cool, you should subscribe there too!)
- Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
- No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
(This list may get expanded when necessary.)
We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.
If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.
If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the mods: @federalreverse@feddit.org, @poVoq@slrpnk.net, or @anzo@programming.dev.
even Ukraine over the last 6 years, and georgia. and as i've watched things playeout after the last 20 years, i can say with confidence: no event is too small for russia to interfere. they desire total global dominance. they will do anything to achieve it. and the easiest way ho weaken everyone else is disinformation to make us all live in our own individual customized reality
Mexican too, we even had RT ads in plain sight back when the Ukraine invasion was starting and the expresident constantly downplayed Putin's shit, we still are applying the outdated (most likely expired too) sputnik vaccine to the public.
For a bit of context, elon is supporting the far right AfD. And AfD is pro russian oil and anti nato. Nato which might have to intervene if a nato member is attacked by russia.
If there is any party russia is supporting, it has to be AfD, imo that would make the most sense.
Damn! I'm shocked! I would've never assumed
And I would bet some of that money is coming from Elon
Laundering through Elon.
Im guessing its going to the AfD
Im not just GΓΌssing. Its quite suspicious that a lot of their politicians have ties to Russia.
No. Shit. They do in the US too. It worked twice now.
And in Bulgaria(?) too. There they had to redo the elections because of this (if I remember correctly)
Classic Russian meddling.
While I have little doubt they are spending many millions on it, I sort of doubt it's billions of euros. They link a telegram source, which talks about German Intelligence. Not impossible, but not an easily verifiable source.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
It just seems rather unlikely they are spending that much on disinformation when the have a real and present war in front of them with huge hardware/personnel loss, and have a waning treasury.
This is hybrid war. AfD and other Russian friendly parties winning means less or less reliable aid to Ukraine
They want to spend 2 billion euros on disinformation so they don't have to spend 5 billion euros on their military.
For example, if they spent 2 billion getting Trump elected and he cuts off US support for Ukraine, that 5 billion would be an absolute bargain for them.
I hear you, but what does it really matter? An (or many) orders of magnitude more than any other country would spend, or even consider.
They're doing it because it's working. They've got America on the ropes and didn't have to nuke anyone.
Maybe they meant rubles.
Worked great in the US, Nazi space karen definitely helped get trump elected
"Allegedly."
