I‘m from Europe, so maybe we don‘t get alle the press news. But from the outside, I wonder: Where the f*** have the Democrats been for weeks?

[–] tauisgod@lemmy.world 17 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They lack unity and any sort of definitive leadership. They're a rudderless ship in a storm. What consensus they can muster among the older ranks is to not upset their wealthy donors, so any chance of creating a policy to invigorate the working class is out of the question. Any policy that is good for the working class will tap the brakes on the unfettered looting being done by the ruling class, so that's a no starter for the establishment Democrats.

What the people want, what some in congress want, what some states want, and what lobbyists want are all different things.

The only thing that Congress and the politicians listen to is money. 90% of the population's wants are ignored, only those who have an income much higher than most Americans are considered, no matter how popular an idea or bill is.

As an American, I've been wondering the same thing.

  • The leader of our upper house, the Senate, recently swapped their vote to approve a bill Republicans, along with 9 others. They could filibuster like Republicans have before in similar seat counts, but aren't. People are pissed, nationally.
  • The last candidate from the Democrat is not popping up right now, I don't think any candidates really speak up after they lose from either party, except Trump because he's always the outlier.
  • The last Democrat in the oval office is properly just trying to retire in peace, I don't recall seeing anything with Biden lately, I think he's just trying to lay low with the pardons on his family.
  • The lower house, the House of Representatives is also Republican controlled. I last heard they might be drafting up a lawsuit and maybe new articles of impeachment to Trump.

The old folks need to go away. If your schools were segregated you shouldn't be in office.

[–] spicehoarder@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago

You're about to discriminate Gen Alpha and Beta

[–] Bakkoda@sh.itjust.works 21 points 2 days ago (2 children)

America will die clinging to the idea that one of these parties will eventually save them.

[–] C45513@lemm.ee 2 points 2 days ago

many already have

[–] tauisgod@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

The only chance we have is the total elimination of private money involvement in politics, and at this point I'm not sure if we're so far gone that even that'll undo the cancer rotting our system.

[–] stoy@lemmy.zip 18 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Ok, so when will they take a step back as examine their tactics since they are obviously not working

[–] ByteJunk@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (1 children)

They have, and the results of their soul searching are as clear as the last time they lost to trump: nothing.

If anything, they're more likely to double down and compete with the republicans on the corporate dick sucking, making it even more apparent to the working class that, with how bad the republicans are, they're just not an alternative...

Instead of splitting into a multi-party democracy, the US is just devolving into a single party state

@ByteJunk @stoy Do you feel that the single party state which america is becoming make usa closer to china (which republicans don't like) ?

[–] xmunk@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 days ago

The ones who will have - the ones who haven't never will (i.e. Schumer)

[–] Liljekonvalj@feddit.org 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Maybe make the signs a little bit bigger... They need more Al Greens. Now. 31 % of the voters voted for trump. Around 40 didn't even vote. They'll loose more votes doing nothing, than actually doing something

[–] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago

If my rep was an Al Green (he won't, he's a Republican in 60+% Republican territory), I'd phone bank and walk door to door for him.

Al Green was unknown to me before, now I hope he can stay fighting. Every Democrat should be an Al Green, and stop being a Schumer.

I read the same story on CNN this morning.

Apparently the Democrats have a favourability rating of 29% ("a record low in CNN’s polling dating back to 1992 and a drop of 20 points since January 2021") while the Republicans have a favourability rating of 36%.

[–] metaldream@sopuli.xyz 16 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

That GOP number is right around Trump's floor, interestingly enough. The GOP is a cult and Dems are angry at their politicians, so this doesn't surprise me.

[–] eugenevdebs@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 2 days ago

I think 36% is the near constant number Trump has ever gotten, that's the percent of Americans who are devoted to their idol. I think the lowest polling ever was Dubya pre-9/11, and the highest ever was Dubya post-9/11.

It's just crazy how this happens.

America voted for Trump, because America is a racist country.

It's not the Dem's fault, it's the fault of the racists.

Lot's of rich right-wing shits right now funding these propaganda news articles, to muddy the waters about how everyone hates Trump.
