Not yet. I think Lemmy needs to mature a bit more and get more of the groups I'm interested in.

[–] datwillpowerdo@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

I have a lot of things saved so I'll probably keep it until I can extract what I want to keep.

[–] howdy@thesimplecorner.org 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

My last account is still open but I've deleted everything on it... I want to delete it on June 30th. You know... to send a message. lol.

[–] pieceofcrazy@feddit.it 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

as someone pointed out in this comment, I don't think deleting all the content we generated thoughout the years is a good idea. I still get replies on years old posts from people who had that same exact question, and the amount of information I actively find on reddit is crazy. Reddit won't care about deleted accounts and posts (and they will only be a minority anyway), and I think doing so is a disservice to every person on the web.

Unless you only posted in r/memes and r/askreddit lol

[–] SomeNumpty@feddit.de 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I get that, but Reddit will be (and has already been) monetizing the content you created. They will also be selling the content to LLMs (large language models) to train AI models. So while I agree you are doing a disservice to people looking for useful content, you are also allowing Reddit / spez etc to monetize your content while giving a big finger to mods, volunteers, communities and 3rd party app developers.

[–] Herranee@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I get where you're coming from, but I'm honestly so annoyed by the general trend of moving from openly accessible online forums to private channels over the recent years. Trying to find answers to many niche questions now often feels like being back in middle school and spending hours or days finding the right IRC channel - only now it's not IRC channels but discord servers.

Reddit can monetize my shit all they want, I'm not gonna contribute to that.

[–] GraceGH@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

I'm probably not going to get rid of my reddit account entirely, at least not until I get some better means of reading the news. Definitely not using it on mobile though, the official app is atrocious

[–] Reitoei@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

Currently using 'Redacted' app on Android to purge my musing. Automated for the win.

[–] kylemsguy@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

Haven't gone scorched earth yet. Don't think I will, but I'll think twice before going back on the site. There's some things that are valuable, and I'll wait and see if they even stay valuable.

[–] PetDeCerveau@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 year ago

Deleted my accounts a few weeks ago. Over time, I’ve found the noise levels to be cyclical and I happened to hit a point of “why am I scrolling through this stuff?” The API nuttiness just reinforced that decision for me.

[–] Davidvanb@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

Deleted Reddit Sync app off my phone. This will drop my Reddit activity 99.99%. Keeping account in case I need to look something up down the road.

[–] toki@sopuli.xyz 4 points 1 year ago

I can't because there are no bulgarians on lemmy, I need r/bulgaria

[–] SmugBedBug@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 year ago

My account is still there but I haven't been back since creating an account here on sh.itjust.works. I don't plan on going back.

Are you guys seeing the trainwreck in this AMA?

Just waiting for the Spez AMA shitshow and them I'm out

[–] fubo@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Strongly considering it. I requested a dump of all my posts & comments there (going back to 2005!) and expect to be pulling out of there at the end of the month if this absurd situation isn't resolved.

You can request a dump of all your Reddit data here under EU GDPR or California CCPA.

Not yet. I'm waiting to see if Reddit will send me my data. Then, even if they don't, I'll delete my posts and comments by the end of the month.

[–] macias@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago

Did it yesterday, and also removed all my comments and posts, but I didn't post that often - I have probably made 30-40 comments and posts in 2 years. However, I still use Reddit on my phone with Relay but logged out. When Reddit shuts down its free API I'll probably switch fully to Fediverse.

I'll probably not. Regardless of their current decisions, old reddit posts help a lot when my browser just won't give me a straight answer

[–] Trabic@lemmy.one 4 points 1 year ago

I nuked both of my alts, but I haven't been able to pull the trigger on the 10 year old main account yet.

Maybe once I get the rest of my recipes and stuff over here I'll scorch the earth, but there are still too many memories in there.

[–] moonleay@feddit.de 4 points 1 year ago

I cleared my post and comment history. I probably will delete my account after the free API shuts down.

[–] WreckingBANG@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I will delete it when Sync for Reddit cannot be used anymore. But I will stop using reddit anyway

I had been without a Reddit account for a while using Infinity (3rd party app) without being logged in. I didn't care about being able to post of comment but it's much more fun on Lemmy! Lemmy is much nicer than Reddit in my opinion and I'll end up stopping using Reddit completely

[–] Xenxs@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Already used Redacted to remove all posts and comments but still lurking as long as Boost is working. It's not easy to let go

[–] pinwurm@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

I'm exploring my options.

As long as old.reddit exists and there is a large community, I'll be 'stuck' with Reddit. I'm not there for the platform - I'm there for the people. I'll go where the people go.

As far as mobile usage goes, I don't know. Without an 'Apollo for Lemmy' or 'Lemmy is Fun' - I'm hanging around waiting for something to happen.

Reddit is the longest I've had a social media account after Facebook - pushing my 12th year. And I've participated in a lot of social media and message boards that came and went.

In my experience, websites sites die quickly when leadership prioritizes scraping profits over a user experience. And look, I completely understand and respect that companies need to earn revenue. However, it's a two-way relationship. Users will always flock to a more streamlined and accessible experience.

It's why Pandora > Shoutcast/iTunes Radio. It's why Spotify > Pandora. And it's why Netflix > Blockbuster. It's why after years of using Fark.com for news engagement, I joined Reddit. It gave me a far superior experience (not that Fark was ever bad).

I really like Lemmy. And I like the concept of federated spaces. But whether or not the concept is a big enough draw is really to be determined - especially without knowing what the mobile experience looks like.

All this to say.. I'll delete my account when it's no longer relevant. If I can get truly unique food and drink recommendations for my local city here, with enthusiastic participants all joining in the conversation - that's what I'll need to bury the past 12 years of online activity.

[–] kristina@lemmygrad.ml 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

i deleted it when they got rid of chapo lol 🤷‍♀️

i feel like my decision has been vindicated

[–] PunsNRoses@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Maybe I'm being naive, but I still have some hope that the blackout will cause Reddit to reverse their decision, or at least be open to re-negotiating with the 3PA devs. I'm exploring alternatives either way.

I've begun the process, requested my data from them and then afterwards i'll be nuking my account

[–] boiledbuns@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

I’ll use it on desktop since there’s likely valuable information and discussions on it (ie. communities that aren’t on Lemmy yet)

I’ve always been more of a lurker on Reddit but I’m making it a goal to contribute more on Lemmy 🫡

[–] Pirky@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Not yet. I want to, though. I want to try saving down everything I've saved over the past 10 years. Once I do that, then I'll feel comfortable deleting it.

[–] lodronsi@beehaw.org 3 points 1 year ago

I deleted my accounts earlier this week (before the AMA). I decided I could just make a new one in the future if that ever was a thing, and I’d rather not contribute to their line charts of “active users”, and rather would appear on those for “accounts deleted in the last 30 days”.

For me it was a symbolic reminder that I don’t want to lurk there and deleting my account was an action I remember. I hope they follow the direction of Twitter and Instagram by making the platform unusable without an account, further cementing more barriers for me.

[–] WandererLagomorph799@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Just waiting on a data request download for submissions (through reddits data request if there isn't a faster way) and noting/making my last few communities on Lemmy, then I'll be on my way out. Didn't expect to clear it this soon but life hits pretty fast sometimes.

I removed all my posts and comments but kept account alive, at best I'll be lurking.

[–] Dresta@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago (6 children)

Not deleted, but exploring the alternatives.

I did - this rings too reminiscent of Twitter for me. I really dislike the native app, and the desktop app is all but unusable on my devices (why? I have no idea, we’re talking recent MacBooks with the m-series processors and gaming PC’s…). I also really dislike ads, and while I think there were options available to pay Reddit for no ads (premium?) it didn’t feel like my subscription money was going to the right place since Reddit is all user generated content. Unlike platforms like YouTube, where the users who create the content openly discuss how their revenue is generated, I’m not even sure the money I would pay to Reddit for premium would benefit the content creators on their site. So yeah, I’m really not going to struggle to use Reddit anymore. RIP Apollo.

[–] bdonvr@lemmy.rogers-net.com 3 points 1 year ago

Not yet. I want to watch and participate in the absolute chaos happening. It's a train wreck, great entertainment.

But as soon as the API key is revoked I'm gone. Well I already spend more time here.

[–] dan@kbin.social 3 points 1 year ago

Not quite, but I also don’t really want to go back to reddit. I’m seeing some great alternatives on the rise, so I can sense I’ll be deleting the profile at some point. Just haven’t pulled that trigger yet.

[–] dihedral@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

I have deleted Apollo off of my phone, but I plan to still use the few tiny sub reddit communities that I enjoy. However, I am actively avoiding r/all and major subs that are just meme factories.

[–] LadyAutumn@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 1 year ago

Not yet. I'm waiting to watch it all fall apart. Definitely going to suck losing out on so many communities. But I'm no longer interested in the direction its going and have been using boost for a decade to browse. I rarely use reddit on desktop and refuse to use their bloated app. It's strayed so far from its original design philosophy that deleting it probably won't hurt all that much.
