Is the a rule that a pope can't be bird? I know he has to be a baptized catholic male and accept of their own free will (added after a tiny incident), but did they ever specify human?

[–] match@pawb.social 9 points 2 months ago

i suppose if he was a Franciscan that would be fine

[–] Thekingoflorda@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The problem is that they have the say they accept the role as pope. So maybe a talking parrot?

Ngl, I would be happy if the cardinal that lives in our yard became pope. He's a cool little dude, and much closer to the divine than any human.

I had a cardinal that would repeatedly bash itself unconscious at whatever window my dad was in. He liked to joke it was his mother. It went on for years. It was fucking wild. It was the same damn bird.

They are not the smartest birds, that's for sure. Pretty, and entertaining, but not too bright

Hey, I resemble that remark.

Very informative! Thanks! I hope the next pope is a bird!

My favorite is the red-crested cardinal(Paroaria coronata) but I know their chances of becoming Pope are slim because it's very unlikely they'd elect two South-American cardinals in a row.

Not a true cardinal either.

Avian discrimination

Ain't no rule says the bird can't be pope.

Not to be a meme-pedant but how is the Northern Cardinal from Italy?

I too was confused about the indicated countries.

[–] fireweed@lemmy.world 2 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago)

Bothered me as well so I went and looked it up, because sometimes animals I associate with North America are present in Eurasia too.

Northern cardinal range:

So definitely a North America exclusive, and it seems all cardinals, the Cardinalidae family, are New World birds. Stupid meme made me go learn something.

(Also "desert cardinal -- Hungary" should have tipped us all off that the country assignments were random)

Fucking discrimination! Replace the "a bird" with "black" and reflect on your bigotry.

I mean, this is the Catholic Church we're talking about. They're not particularly known for fair hiring policies.
