I've ditched Duolingo a while ago for teaching me things that wre just plain wrong. I can't imagine it will get any better by instead relying on those gloriified chatbots that are marketed as "AI" these days.

Laying off staff and pushing AI slop is considered a dick move in bird culture.

I realize they're just getting on the AI train to cash in on that hype and save money, but if they actually care deeply about the users they should think instead about replacing the CEOs with AI. I'm not sure AI would do a lot worse here.

Duolingo just seems like a game to me. I’ve never met anyone who actually learned a language from it. it’s definitely a helpful supplement to other lessons though.

If you want to actually speak a language in 3 months, try Pimselur. The listen then speak method really worked for me.

Duolingo content is quite often wrong, I'd be surprised if it even was reviewed by people who speak the languages in the first place.

Duolingo was more or less slop anyway, depending on the language.

Check out Mango for an alternative. I was able to get a free subscription from my library (although I think there’s also a free tier).
