So much is happening here. So much. Attacks going out of pak for an hour and a half.

India had sent in even more unprovoked missiles right before this. Pak intercepted those and then sent back their attack.

BIG ATTACK. More than 20 targets already.

I wonder if this will kick-start WW3. I've got my doomsday prep kit ready just in case. It's a camping chair and a bottle of Southern Comfort. I like to try and maintain realistically low expectations.

[–] clutchtwopointzero@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

nah. foreign powers are completely uninterested, so this will remain a local conflict. there's nothing there to forcibly draw other countries in as well

[–] Saleh@feddit.org 11 points 1 week ago

Most of Europes pharmaceutical drugs are sourced from India these days. India is crucial for Russia to launder its oil to circumvent EU sanctions. India is a huge producer of a lot of other things. An all out war would likely also involve a lot of cyber warfare which would affects the large IT outsourced to India and will likely hit a lot of "bystanders". China might use the weakness of India to move up in its border conflict with them...

India and Pakistan represent about 15-20% of the global population. This absolutely has the potential to draw other powers in.

Massive cyber attacks too. 70% of Indian power out. A lot of hacking going on. Massive MASSIVE coordinated attack

[–] TransplantedSconie@lemm.ee 25 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I was just gonna comment about that lol.

That's fucking nuts.

[–] Eyekaytee@aussie.zone 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

it’s not true though, 70% of indian power isn’t out

[–] TheBat@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago

Yeah I don't know what this guy is on about.

[–] redsand@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You have a source? 70% is inasane.

[–] SnokenKeekaGuard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 week ago (6 children)

20250510_070845

Not yet independently confirmed. I would add, please ignore any Indian media on all matters, either follow non Asian media outlets or Pakistani.

The Indian media has been TERRIBLE.

[–] redsand@lemmy.dbzer0.com 18 points 1 week ago (2 children)

I'm not going take either side's word. If it's anywhere near 70% there will satellite photos in a few hours.

[–] embed_me@programming.dev 9 points 1 week ago

Well I'm in India, and there's no such thing. This whole thread reeks of misinformation. I hope the mods take care of baseless claims being spread.

[–] i_am_hard@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

They haven't hit the power infra in any way.

[–] redsand@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That sounds more unlikely than 70%. Going by history the truth will end up being a sub station in a northern province blew. Something stupid and isolated that Pakistan will play up and India will play down. Let's see what the AP, BBC, RT, Al and CNN report tomorrow.

PS. The state run PTV is not the only source but the one aljazeera mentioned. Perhaps its not 70% (I personally dont think it could be that vast) but I do believe they managed something

[–] cecilkorik@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 week ago

What makes you believe that? Sensationalized unverified nonsense is just as bad as fake news, in fact it's worse because people like you think "well it's a big official news outlet what they say must be happening for real as I'm sure they've researched it" but their only motivation is money and being "first to report". Explain your analysis of the quality of the fact-checking, access to legitimate sources and on-the-ground reporting of any not-directly-involved media organization that's reporting on this and I'll give you a pass. There's nothing from Al-Jazeera, and not even any opposing propaganda available because as they admit, "This claim could not be independently verified by Al Jazeera. The Indian government has yet to comment."

So far, I don't see a single corroborating source with any sort first-hand information at all. It's very easy to copy and paste what government propaganda says and present it as news, and when it's sensational it can get lots of clicks and ad money. That doesn't mean it is real and I can't see any reason you would have to believe any of this, and if you do, maybe you'd like to buy this bridge I've got for sale.

[–] pycorax@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Do you have a link? I don't think a screenshot can be considered a source.

70 % power grid is definately not out.

Work at a industrial area and everything is fine here no problems not even a whisper of war caused problems except lack of police at daily checkposts

Okay am I the only one who thinks this doesn't bode well for democracy in the region? Modi will obviously use this as a chance to consolidate power, and the Pakistani army's political role will likely see a resurgence after years of democratization.

[–] i_am_hard@sh.itjust.works 23 points 1 week ago (1 children)

years of democratization.

They literally removed and jailed the last PM on very shaky grounds.

[–] NoneOfUrBusiness@fedia.io 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don't know how legitimate his jailing was, but he (you're talking about Imran Khan right?) was removed by a vote of no confidence, which at least on paper is a perfectly democratic affair. According to Wikipedia,

The Armed Forces has historically played an influential role in the country's politics,[11][12] although it has declined in recent years.

After the resignation of President Pervez Musharraf in 2008, a sharp line has been drawn between the "military establishment" and politics and Pakistan is moving closer to becoming a democracy after general elections in 2013.

They're not a democracy in any sense of the word, but things seem to be improving compared to the army's political heyday.

[–] i_am_hard@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

but things seem to be improving compared to the army's political heyday.

Not really. This cycle keeps repeating. They have a few elections before army exercises control again.

India v Paki coming from behind in global flashpoint race to WW3. Its now neck and neck and neck between:

  • India V Paki
  • Israel V Palestine/Lebanon/Houthi/Iran
  • New Syria V Syria (new)
  • China V Taiwan
  • China V Philippines
  • Ukraine V Russia
  • US V Houthis/Iran
  • America: The Meme V America: The Dream

Australia V the Emus doesn't even rate anymore.

[–] Tikiporch@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago (1 children)

[–] HK65@sopuli.xyz 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I barely know anything about the conflict, but this comment section is wild.

Welcome to anything India and Pakistan related ever.

[–] peoplebeproblems@midwest.social 11 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Why didn't Pakistan and India work together to bring the perpetrators to justice?

[–] SnokenKeekaGuard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 1 week ago (2 children)

India wasn't interested in an investigation. Saw an opportunity for a populist 'Pakistan evil' moment and jumped on it.

Pakistan instantly offered a joint investigation and the option to bring in third part investigators.

The perpetrators roam free even still. Happy that they managed to get exactly what they wanted.

[–] gradual@lemmings.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Thanks for mentioning this. Do you have any sources to back up this information?

Guess WWIII has officially kicked off.

[–] ShittyBeatlesFCPres@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It’s not officially a world war until every FIFA confederation has a representative.

Australia and Indonesian Papua being in Asia is kind of bullshit but I don’t make the rules.

[–] Agent641@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

This map is accurate, I am Australian and we have sunk back beneath the sea where we belong

[–] SnokenKeekaGuard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Pakistan has not targeted a single civilian. This does give both countries an off ramp.

This is an out. This is how both nations have a way to calm down. India celebrate no loss of life when pak attack and attacking terrorist sites.

Pakistan celebrate attacking their military and getting the 'military win'.

Modi gets his win, pak army get their win. The powerful parties on both sides get something here.

Having said this India will escalate now.

The mood in Pakistan is sombre. Noone has wanted any of this. From the beginning. The Indian media has a lot of blamento take in this saga. And so does the far right in India

Eh, we're still in the prelude I think. Think second Sino-Japanese war. When China attacks Taiwan and belligerents all over the world align that's when it'll be a proper world war.

[–] Maeve@kbin.earth 2 points 1 week ago

I hope TF not.
