Unlike in amerikkka, the hyperloop isn't just a scam to try and stop high speed rail

Classic train comic

commuter supersonic rail would be so fucking badass.

This would still be a little under the speed of sound. The article claims the planned speed is 600mph, the speed of sound in air is about 760mph depending on conditions.

(it would be the fastest train on earth by a wide margin though)

Article later on talks about a third phase which is aiming for sound barrier

Still seems so dangerous lol. But I guess it could always be used for transporting goods if it doesn't work out for transporting people.

But I guess it could always be used for transporting goods

It goes without saying; certain goods. We don't want another East Palestine, Ohio situation.

Usually it's not worth transporting goods at very high speeds as air resistance is proportional to the square of speed

[–] blobjim@hexbear.net 1 points 2 months ago

well this one's a hyperloop (vacuum) I guess so there won't be much air resistance to worry about.

that's what the tests are for before they deploy it, my comrade

The project takes inspiration from the hyperloop concept proposed by Elon Musk in a 2013 white paper

OMG stfu already, this have been deboonked for 10+ years at this point. Elon didn't come up with shit, he recycled a 200 year old idé and all he ended up doing was driving a few of his (highly combustible) cars through a narrow tunnel that's basically a death trap if anything catches fire...

That said, let's hope China can finally make it work!

Oh, I thought it was gonna be like the Dahir-Insaat flying train
