Seriously though, I've heard talk that the church is looking for ways to encourage new membership, everyone sees them as some inneffective vestige of an old time but if they started acting like a modern force upholding their claimed values people would be all over that.
Italy would absolutely have to take the Vatican's side, right? The public pressure would be society-breaking.
