When I was like 8 years old my friend's mom told my mom that I gave her the middle finger, which was a lie, and got me punished so I couldn't go to my other friend's birthday party at the water park and I still haven't forgiven that bitch. I will get my revenge in this life or the next.

I seem to attract a lot of impersonation-based blame (which often mixes with other things that are unfairly attributed to me or the other person, which there is a lot of) even though I prove otherwise every time.

You say that as if you aren't brand new to the community, going by your date. From someone who isn't new to someone who is, I would like to clarify that he himself has said that how you describe him and his gesture (which also evokes other issues) doesn't match his intent behind the gesture, which is what I meant by that word and is the ruling that the ADL and every fact-checker rests on, though I wish to respect rule 5 here.

As for the other thing, what would it say about your accusation if it was revealed that the only reason I have joined any questionable groups this year is that my own marginalized friends were concerned about what others conspire about them and said they needed someone on the inside to act as a buffer? I have friends who I would walk through Hell for. Given what I'm saying, what do you think I'm doing?

That's a semantic issue, not one that involves actual denial of atrocious acts. And again, rule 5.

Ha! I also had someone accuse me of being an alt account of someone else the other day. And the impression that I got from that accusation was that it was a case of "you're not falling in line and following the script and you're saying something unpopular, therefore you must be a bot / troll." And I've definitely seen people around here accusing others of being alts in various comment sections too. To the point where I'm going to just stop taking it seriously.

At this point, I don't care what the cliquey in crowd around here says or dictates. I'll make up my own mind. I'm sick of both the internal politics and a lot of these grumbly neckbeards around here too.

For the person you replied to, there are high suspicions of them using alts, as reported by a lot of different people: https://lemmy.ca/post/45034828

[–] Secret_Music@crazypeople.online 2 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Oof it's just alts all the way down lol. I've actually received a DM out of the blue for interacting with that person. And maybe it's true. But the fact that I was also accused not long ago makes me wonder if there's DMs going around behind my back whenever anyone interacts with me too.

All I can say is that this is a mess that makes everyone involved look bad.

[–] Blaze@piefed.social 3 points 2 days ago (2 children)

It's probably because your account is new and not related to an established account.

I myself keep the same username between my alts to make it easier for people to recognize me. Otherwise new accounts very active from the get go may appear as potential alts

This is honestly one of the things about the fediverse which makes me the most uncomfortable. It's far too easy to impersonate someone, which could open up some very uncomfortable doors when paired with other doxing efforts, which Lemmy is also quite vulnerable to.

[–] Blaze@piefed.social 2 points 1 day ago

If you get impersonated, report it to the instance admins.

If the admins don't react fast enough, post about it on a meta community like !fediverse@lemmy.world.

That's just paranoid to me. I had three or four different accounts over my time at Reddit. And I've had multiple different usernames since the forum days. I'm pretty sure a lot of people here never just had one Reddit account or username between those. And I mean, come on. You have to shop around different instances here.

At this point, if someone is going to make accusations like that despite linking to my old people in this profile's bio and vice versa, then they're probably just unpleasant and paranoid people.

[–] Blaze@piefed.social 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

despite linking to my old people in this profile's bio and vice versa

I missed that, then you're all good.

By the way, I just realized we've talked before! How do you like your new instance?

[–] Secret_Music@crazypeople.online 4 points 2 days ago (2 children)

I just realized we've talked before!

This is a problem I've noticed between different apps and interfaces. I've actually had this username set as my screen name on my old account for a couple of months now. But I notice that different apps seem to randomly choose whether they're going to display usernames or screen names. For example, Eternity displayed screen names, Summit only displays usernames unless you go into a profile.

It's pretty cool here. I've mainly made the switch so that I can see that alt community. Which is actually just as dead as all of the other interests I like to regularly interact with lol. And I'm pretty the one person around here that regularly posts content I enjoy is pretty sick of seeing me by now.

So I've actually started using F*c*b**k a bit again, sadly. At least I can doomscroll and comment on things without feeling like a nuisance or loser lol. That's where I'm getting my supply of memes from right now. Maybe if I can help other people not feel so alone here if I join in and post the content that I'd like to see. Not sure how long it's going to last thirty because this isn't what I really want out of a platform like this. Posting memes and shit is actually kinda boring compared to commenting on memes and shit.

But I notice that different apps seem to randomly choose whether they're going to display usernames or screen names. For example, Eternity displayed screen names, Summit only displays usernames unless you go into a profile.

This is usually configurable in most apps. For example, Eternity has a setting called "Show community and user display names" (on by default), and Summit has a setting called "Prefer user display names" (off by default).

[–] Secret_Music@crazypeople.online 3 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

I think I saw that setting in Eternity. Didn't notice it in Summit but there's a lot of options in Summit, so I could've easily missed it. Thanks for letting me know it's there somewhere though, I'll look for it.

Edit: yup, found it. In the misc section where I was probably tired of playing with settings at that point.

[–] Blaze@piefed.social 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I've actually had this username set as my screen name on my old account for a couple of months now.

Were you also using that username on your Lemm.ee account? That's what I thought was your last active account

[–] Secret_Music@crazypeople.online 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Nah I've been back on my Blåhaj account for the last week or two already. I didn't have the same username on that account though.

Here's the reason for all of the username changes, Zero22xx has been my online handle for like 8 years now and it's time to retire it, simply. It doesn't really represent me anymore. And Secret Music was supposed to be temporary until I could figure out my new long-term online handle. Which is why the username on my lemm.ee amount was "Character_Locked" lol. But actually in the mean time, Secret Music has been growing on me more and more. It's from a line of a song that I've been basically obsessed with this whole year so far.

And that's my story, thanks for listening lol. Sorry for the username shenanigans.

[–] Blaze@piefed.social 2 points 2 days ago

for the last week or two already

Ah, that makes sense, I haven't been that active in the last few weeks, so that's why I didn't notice.

And that's my story, thanks for listening lol. Sorry for the username shenanigans.

Well, no worries, thank you for explaining!

[–] shinigamiookamiryuu@lemm.ee -1 points 2 days ago

If you're like me, people talking behind your back to spread misinformation about you is a guarantee. Sometimes it's cited as a ban motive if it fails. But usually people forget there are two sides to every conflict.

[–] shinigamiookamiryuu@lemm.ee -2 points 2 days ago

You're just making the original question seem more fitting here.
