I really feel for the reporter on this one. Having to try to make incoherent nonsense that has almost no chance of passage make sense is a thankless job.
On the other hand, this is sane-washing.
Reporters can only push back so hard against individual assignments. It's inarguably news, so you don't have the trump card. This is, then, important information that needs to come out.
