Ol' girl goes in for her colectomy tm. In for a week +.

Bit worried about the recovery as she weighs bugger all. Definitely not going in in the best of shapes. I've locked horns w/ the ol' boy way too many times but the main thing is food.

Dude can't cook and that will be a problem.

How the fuck you can go through life and best you can do is a crumpet or overdone steak is beyond me. Hasn't even tried once.

I understand that generation is a bit different w/ gender roles etc. but following a recipe isn't exactly hard.

Ffs, drop the 'it's a womans job' shit mentality and learn. Seriously stuck in the 1950's.

Thanks for reading my rant.

Local council might have assistance available - especially if it's only for meals. If money's no object, then hiring someone to come in and cook every couple of days might be a useful way to deal with this.

Light and easy are well tolerated by my older clients.

10/10 rant except for the part where it is a very real problem ๐Ÿ˜” the dickhead husband of my favourite aunt is a bit like this - he can cook some very basic meals and a couple of overspiced dishes. But it doesn't matter how sick his wife is, he cooks when he feels like it (esp if there are guests to show off to), but she is expected to always cook. Really grinds my gears. Your old man might need a bit of a slap in the face about the reality of the situation...

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

get lots of ready made frozen meals

call Meals on Wheels

then let him fend for himself

of course the worry will be he will expect Ol' Girl to cook once she's back home

[โ€“] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 10 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

expect Olโ€™ Girl to cook

Yep.

The problem is she can only eat soup, which he won't eat. Expecting her to cook 2 different things in recovery is just not reasonable. She wants to be seen that she's cooking (as weird as that sounds) but she's increasingly making poor decisions in the kitchen.

The expectation that she cooks for him has been there for decades and it's pretty much dangerous now (hot liquids / poor eyesight / weak etc.).

Made a whole bunch in the last few days so she'll be fine. Just pisses me off there hasn't been an effort by ol' boy.

Nearly 3 months into my new role and I still haven't taken a day off. I have a feeling I may be falling ill when kids have school holidays.

[โ€“] just_kitten@aussie.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

Everyone I know is getting the flu or a cold one after the other. Sounds like it's your turn coming up

[โ€“] Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Physio mostly fixed it. Yay.

Also temu order is here. Saving it till after I feed the cats.

Sit in bed, uber eats, play with Gibson, unpack temu.

Not too bad an evening

The news feels like foreshadowing in a bad apocalypse movie and I still need to go to work

[โ€“] just_kitten@aussie.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It felt a bit like this when I was working on my thesis preso yesterday. Does any of this matter? Maybe we will be in WW3 by the end of this week. Whatever...

[โ€“] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

It reminds me of this meme I saw when COVID started of a Venn diagram of 'still having to go to work' and 'the end of the world'. It feels like we're in that overlap again

Daylesford was cold as hell, but I lived

[โ€“] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

That's why you need to have a cozy cottage with a fireplace in Daylesford.

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

It is possible to freeze your arse off in Daylesford.

[โ€“] MeanElevator@aussie.zone 10 points 2 weeks ago

Saturday housework (indoors and outdoors).

Wanted to chill in the afternoon but fam wanted to go to High Point (kill me). At least food and coffe were okay AND it was indoors.

Yesterday wanted to chill, but son wanted to go to the gym and my neighbour asked me for some help (he's a good one, so of course I obliged).

Working from home today but cannot be arsed going a damn thing.

26 years ago, when I was in prep/grade 1, our dance/music teacher had us sing and dance to Aquarius/Let the Sunshine In

26 years later, having never heard the song since, I can still remember how it goes.

Woke up feeling great. Getting lightly loaded on hot toddys and a bit of weed seems to have done the trick. Thanks for all the advice.

Periods suck (tw: menstuation and poop)My lower abdomen cramping and bubbling like a witch's cauldron, the heinous poos, the feeling of exhaustion. And I ground my damn teeth last night so half my brain already feels asleep.

This week is poo week.

spoilerWait until you get older and it becomes a roulette game. Will it be light, heavy? Will it come today? Probably not and then when you least expected it, it pops in overnight when you've got important stuff to do in the morning.

It's your body's way of saying EAT CHOCOLATE.

Is it too much to ask for a sock to be of normal thickness and to last at least 4 wears without getting holes?

$15 socks are not much better than $2 socks.

I've got that sleep-in brainfog because I had an early one last night dealing with an obstinate child then woke up a little later than usual this morning. I'm still feeling it

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Does that mean that the non-obstinate child is your favourite today?

Today at the Op Shop I found an original Les Paul and Mary Ford vinyl. I think it's mono. ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐ŸŽธ

I just checked my record player was on the right speed, surely he can't really be playing that fast!?

My manager went home sick and all my motivation followed him out the gate...

[โ€“] RustyRaven@aussie.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago

Having my routines messed up by moving and changing my work hours meant I didn't do washing when I should have and almost ran out of clothes. It's also been terrible drying weather, but I fortunately have an undercover area I can set up my clothes horse so I finally have clean and dry clothes tooday. Except for one t-shirt which got blown onto the ground and rained on.

I'm going to do my main cleaning day before my first night shift each week, which meant I got to come home to nice fresh sheets on the bed this morning. Athough I'm probably too exhausted at that point to really appreciate it.

After ditching my planned trip back to Melbourne last week I really have to go this week. Hopefully I can fit pretty much everything else I need into the back of the van (which will include the lawnmower which is really needed up here with the way the grass has been grrowing) but I'll also need one more trip in a couple of weeks to organise rubbish collection for a bunch of stuff I'm getting rid of. I'm looking forward to not having to keep doing that drive, or at least not on my own time - there will be regular trips back on work time which are a very different thing to losing your own days off.

Took the day off. If I feel better later I'll jump back online.

Fuck this.

My turn to be out on the Bellarine today for work. Ccccold. Wimdy

Also wish I could just hop over the bay it would be so much faster. Not looking forward to the 1.5hr drive back.

On a related note, why the fuck does a modern SUV (2022) with all the driver assist shit not have automatic lights, with the lit-up display I nearly started driving without my lights on while it was dark out. Idiotic

[โ€“] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Been > a month since I've been down. Miss the place but not (!) looking forward to the weeds. Chilli patch is probably 90% oxalis by now :(

I have had an obsession with 'toasted' wraps this week. 'Toasted' meaning I am too lazy to get the sandwich press out and clean it so I put a bit of cholesterol spread margarine in a small frying pan.

It came about after I learnt a sandwich shop in Richmond were charging $16 for a tuna melt. I tried making a tuna melt myself. Wasn't the best, but maybe that was because I didn't add lemon juice or celery.

Today was Vegemite and cheese, with a side of vegetables so I could feel better about my choices after consuming potentially too much salt. Cheese and tomato also good despite the water content of tomatoes. I wanna try mushrooms next, but I feel as though they might be too watery. Maybe some chicken.

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Chicken, avo and cheese is a classic. Cheese, ham, pineapple, mushroom and tomato paste is a pizza wrap. Cheese, egg, bacon/ham is a breakfast wrap. So many possibilities.
