Morality doesn’t come from religion, it comes from people.

religion, it comes from people.

hidden truth

[–] richieadler@lemmy.myserv.one 3 points 1 year ago

It shouldn't be hidden. Maybe more people would stop believing nonsense.

[–] BertramDitore@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

Oh damn, that’s good.

[–] leraje@lemmy.world 35 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They're only saying the quiet part out loud. Most christians don't believe in or act in accordance with what jesus was purported to have said and haven't done for a very long time.

[–] ChocoboRocket@lemmy.world 16 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Religion is often a smokescreen to dehumanize others and not have to feel bad about it. Because if you're religious then you're good, and a good person can't be guilty of bad things if they are done in service to their religion.

The power hungry will say absolutely anything that gives them more power, and if some people believe nothing is more powerful than God, then the power hungry will claim to act in his name to accomplish their own selfish goals.

Honestly, if the devil was real and had intentions to corrupt people, religion would be the ideal tool to accomplish his goals.

As they say, there's no hate like Christian love.

[–] hglman@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago

It is hate speech and we need freedom from religion, and specifically dogma.

It's even more ironic than him being golden calf-like; someone shows up who bears a striking resemblance to the "bad guy" in their story and they fall over worshipping him. Article: Could American Evangelicals Spot the Antichrist?

[–] Jaysyn@kbin.social -4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

IIRC, according to their silly mythology, the anti-christ doesn't show up till post-rapture.

[–] DarkGamer@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Just before.

Antichrist, the polar opposite and ultimate enemy of Christ. According to Christian tradition, he will reign terribly in the period prior to the Last Judgment.

Significant evangelicals support him because they believe he will hasten the Apocalypse as "Last World Emperor." They want the end of the world they just think he plays a different role in it.

this is a type of “Accellerationism" and also has ties to white power groups like The Base who believe in the same thing, but by being a bit more of an active part of it (ahem). big shock it comes from Evangelicals.

[–] ericisshort@lemmy.world 29 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They found a new god that they like better than ole Jeebus.

[–] Jaysyn@kbin.social 1 points 1 year ago

And it's Mammon.

They are finally realizing they aren't (never have been) christians in practice and that the christian bible is no longer vicious enough to support their behavior. I wonder if they have even enough self-awareness to be cognizant of that fact as they set out to assemble new doctrine and new deities that conform to their belief system.

I'm all for getting rid of religion entirely, but I think I'd be perfectly happy if christians just behaved more christ-like.

[–] jantin@lemmy.world 19 points 1 year ago

Yeah, but there is, like, an easy solution. All these 'weak', 'socialist' ideas are in the New Testament, just get rid of it and keep the Old Testament as the cornerstone of your religion.... Oh wait...

[–] Hypx@kbin.social 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Hey, that's literally what happened with the Nazis. They started off as "supporters" of the Christian faith before suddenly revealing that they wanted a vastly more violent religion.

[–] krayj@sh.itjust.works 2 points 1 year ago

This is why we desperately need separation of church and state. We've supposedly had this concept for centuries, but I feel like we've been losing ground lately.

[–] Bizarroland@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago

It sucks when some people say, "I'm a (insert religious view)" when what they actually mean is, "I'm in the in group, even though I don't really know what that entails".

It's just like being the school bully's friend not because he's nice to you or he gets you but because if you're not his friend then he'll beat you up.

[–] StarServal@kbin.social 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

The cult has outgrown the need for Jesus.

[–] Cobrachickenwing@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

They now believe in the church of perpetual exemption. Exemption from laws, ethics, reality.

[–] Chetzemoka@kbin.social 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

church of perpetual exemption

Oh, that's good. I'm stealing that.

[–] Cobrachickenwing@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 year ago

Please tithe our founder John Oliver after stealing said scheme.

And here we are, when Supply Side Jesus has become reality.

[–] krayj@sh.itjust.works 8 points 1 year ago

The proof that humankind created god is evidenced by the fact that we are witnessing, in realtime, humankind recreating god to cater to their current beliefs, which are no longer fundamentally compatible with christianity. I'm sickened to think about what they come up with as a replacement.

[–] DarkGamer@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This tells me they don't actually believe and all the religious talk is just purity tests to fit in. If they did believe, they wouldn't expect the teachings of the religion to cater to their preexisting beliefs. This will hasten the downfall of Christianity, so it's probably a good thing long-term.

[–] NounsAndWords@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

If they did believe, they wouldn’t expect the teachings of the religion to cater to their preexisting beliefs.

You are talking about people who believe in an all powerful being of perfect goodness (who also likes to give kids cancer), because an authority figure told them to do so. I don't think many of those people ever even think it's strange that "God" just so happens to hold true everything that they already believed.

[–] theostermanweekend@lemmy.ml 3 points 1 year ago

Just a matter of time before they turned on Jesus. Trump cult.

[–] rynzcycle@kbin.social 2 points 1 year ago

I'd remind them that motherfucker's gonna flip some tables and whip a B if they don't fix their shit.

Weak? Weak??? Fuck you you goddamn chucklefucking morons. There's nothing weak about my writing, even taken out of context like you dumbfucks decided to do every other sentence. You can call me a lot of things, but weak ain't one of them, you hypocritical motherfuckers. Those words are still the best selling fiction work EVER, and you idiots think that your lives are so hard the teachings are "weak"? Goddamn, people like you are what makes Dad flood shit.

Can't believe I fucking got on a cross for these morons. That's it - I know I'm supposed to be in recovery, but I need a goddamn drink. Anyone got a water bottle?
