Two self serving men hoping to score political points so they may someday be president. Yaaaay...

I feel like DeSantis has already wasted whatever shot he may have had at President. Running against Trump was a stupid idea

[–] orclev@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Stupid ideas are very on brand for DeSantis, they're pretty much the only ideas he has.

Don't leave out the third man. Hannity, January 6th participant-via-phone and Trumpsucker extraordinaire, will make absolute bank off of this.

This is the best summary I could come up with:

Gavin Newsom are slated to go head-to-head on the debate stage next week, a culmination of months of rising tensions between the two.

The long-teased event, hosted by Fox News, marks a climax in the ongoing feud between the governors, with Newsom criticizing DeSantis for sending migrants to California and the Florida governor taking aim at Newsom for people leaving California to move to Florida.

The debate will be broadcast live from Alpharetta, Ga., but will not feature an audience in attendance, which Fox said will allow the governors equal opportunity to respond to and address each issue.

Newsom initially challenged DeSantis to a debate in September 2022, after the Florida governor chartered two planes of migrants that landed in Martha’s Vineyard, Mass., sparking outrage from Democrats.

Strategists across the political spectrum see the debate as an opportunity for both governors to gain visibility and establish themselves as the future of their respective parties.

Fox said the goal of the event is to “examine the vastly different approaches the two governors have and offer insights into their political philosophies as well as ambitions for the nation.” Hannity will highlight issues in each state, “including the economy, the border, immigration, crime, and inflation,” the network said.

The original article contains 520 words, the summary contains 202 words. Saved 61%. I'm a bot and I'm open source!

I guess I don't really understand how this helps Newsom or the Dem party for 2024.

[–] FlexibleToast@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Newsom, along with a majority of democrats, is hoping Biden will drop out or something for 2024. But really, these are just two governors about to hit their term limits trying to pump their own tires. They're both presidential hopefuls that only have a chance if the front runner quits or dies.

How is not having an audience supposed to help?

Should be an interesting debate.
