Black Watchday

  • Brush: Мужской Материк Orange Stabilised Burl with 28mm Oumo boar knot at 57mm loft
  • Razor: Thiers Issard Le Dandy
  • Lather: Spearhead Shaving Company Seaforth! Black Watch
  • Aftershave: Declaration Grooming Cerberus
  • Fragrance: Spearhead Shaving Company Seaforth! Black Watch

Cerberus and Black Watch pair very well and I'm surprised I hadn't noticed before. Surely a combo that I'll be enjoying again.

This little Thiers Issard that I bought in a real life brick and mortar razor so on a recent trip is bringing me more hot than I'd thought. And it's been nice to be using the chonky Мужской Материк brush again. Prior to the Moar Boar, this was my biggest boar and felt positively gigantic. The Moar Boar has put it in perspective😄

Black WatchDay++;

Interesting pairing of Cerberus and BW. I will have to give that a try.

Yes, I think you'll like it👍

  • Brush: Yaqi Cavern Lake 24mm Tuxedo

  • Razor: Parker 510 13/16" Square Point Full Hollow

  • Lather: House of Mammoth - Smash - Soap

  • Post Shave: Fabergé - Brut - Aftershave

  • Post Shave: Thayers - Lavender - Toner

  • Talc: Pinaud Clubman

It is Mammutmittwoch so I'm bringing out the Smash. I have been making the Bourbon cocktail fairly often, using peach nectar since fresh peaches are out of season. The scent of the soap really does remind me of the drink. Nice shave this morning.

That Parker looks glorious 🤩

And now I want to make a Smash 😂 🍹

[–] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

As you might imagine, the Parker shaves like it looks. It is made in Japan during the 60s and 70s, I think, but I don’t really know much about them. Forum praise is very high, though.

I urge you to try the drink of you like bourbon. I follow mammothben’s recipe but also muddle in some fresh mint when I can get it.

I follow mammothben’s recipe

Oh, is there a link?

[–] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 2 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (2 children)

There is a link but I copied down that recipe:

Peach Smash

1 demerara cube
1/2 ripe peach or 3/4oz peach nectar
1.5oz bourbon
0.5oz St. Germain

I muddle the the ingredients in a shaker add ice, shake, and pour. As mentioned, fresh mint is a nice addition.

Nov. 22, 2023

  • Brush: Yaqi 26mm Synthetic
  • Razor: Karve CB SB D
  • Blade: UK Tech Statum
  • Lather: Barrister And Mann - Paganini’s Violin - Soap
  • Post Shave: Barrister And Mann - Paganini’s Violin - Aftershave

Bad shave. This blade seemed to really go downhill quickly. I have a bunch of irritation on my neck. Tomorrow will bring another shave.

You win some, you lose some 😢

  • Preshave: Water -> Face
  • Brush: Zenith 506U XS Horse 🐎
  • Razor: Karve CB Brass C Plate CC
  • Blade: Astra Superior Platinum (36?)
  • Lather: Haslinger Calendula
  • Post Shave: Mennen Skin Bracer
  • Post Shave: Nivea After Shave Balm

A quick evening shave, but I will probably get rid of this soap - it's simply too drying for my skin.

Have a good night!

  • Brush: Maggard 24mm Tuxedo Synthetic
  • Razor: Gillette Super Adjustable 109 PD (E-3)
  • Blade: Wilkinson Sword Classic (1)
  • Lather: House of Mammoth - Voices - Soap
  • Post Shave: House of Mammoth - Santa Noir - Aftershave
  • Fragrance: House of Mammoth - Santa Noir - EdP

I slept on Voices for a long time because 1) the label/association with a podcast (I know, silly) and 2) because I was afraid it'd be too "mango". Well, it smells great, and I like it. I have a sample and I'm sure I'll miss it when it's gone.

Gourmand Evening

  • Brush: Мужской Материк Orange Stabilised Burl with 28mm Oumo boar knot at 57mm loft
  • Razor: Thiers Issard Le Dandy
  • Lather: Barrister and Mann Frankly My Pear
  • Aftershave: Wholly Kaw Iced Tea
  • Fragrance: Imaginary Authors A Whiff of Waffle Cone

I'm in a gourmand mood recently, so the next few shaves will follow that theme. This one was sweet.

November 22, 2023 - les Mercredis du Mammouth

  • Brush: Yaqi Cavern Lake 24mm Tuxedo
  • Razor: Feather AS-D2
  • Blade: Gillette 7 O'Clock SharpEdge (Yellow) (4)
  • Lather: House of Mammoth - Sonder - Soap
  • Post Shave: Combe Inc. - Aqua Velva Classic Ice Blue - Aftershave
  • Post Shave: Thayers - Lemon - Toner

About 2½ years ago some very cheap disposable cartridge razors made me fed up with the lousy shaves I was getting from them. I wanted really close shaves and I wanted to enjoy them. A little online research lead me to Feather DE blades. I was sold on these immediately because of my long-running experience with the high quality of Japanese cutlery. It only seemed fitting to buy the razor that is designed to be used with these blades, so I did.

And I was hooked on this combination after my first shave with them; a very close, very comfortable one-pass shave done with canned goo. Then I decided to go back to where I started and get a brush and a mug of soap. A Parker silvertip badger brush and a tub of Tabac landed at my door shortly thereafter. I'm a little further down the rabbit hole now ;)

[–] djundjila@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

An AS-D2 as starting razor and the Stank ® as your first soap, you dove right in with the fancy stuff! ☺️

[–] gcgallant@sub.wetshaving.social 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

At the time, I figured that I would use that razor for the rest of my life and its cost would be insignificant when amortized over that time, and I thought I would use one blade per month, and that the soap would last about 3 or 4 months. And I already knew how to shave with a DE and could use a straight and not cut myself ... but my online research uncovered YouTube videos which contributed greatly to my descent into madness :-;

Lol, I have made this kind of argument myself numerous times.
