Welcome to c/news! Please read the Hexbear Code of Conduct and remember... we're all comrades here.

Rules:

-- PLEASE KEEP POST TITLES INFORMATIVE --

-- Overly editorialized titles, particularly if they link to opinion pieces, may get your post removed. --

-- All posts must include a link to their source. Screenshots are fine IF you include the link in the post body. --

-- If you are citing a twitter post as news please include not just the twitter.com in your links but also nitter.net (or another Nitter instance). There is also a Firefox extension that can redirect Twitter links to a Nitter instance: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/libredirect/ or archive them as you would any other reactionary source using e.g. https://archive.today/ . Twitter screenshots still need to be sourced or they will be removed --

-- Mass tagging comm moderators across multiple posts like a broken markov chain bot will result in a comm ban--

-- Repeated consecutive posting of reactionary sources, fake news, misleading / outdated news, false alarms over ghoul deaths, and/or shitposts will result in a comm ban.--

-- Neglecting to use content warnings or NSFW when dealing with disturbing content will be removed until in compliance. Users who are consecutively reported due to failing to use content warnings or NSFW tags when commenting on or posting disturbing content will result in the user being banned. --

-- Using April 1st as an excuse to post fake headlines, like the resurrection of Kissinger while he is still fortunately dead, will result in the poster being thrown in the gamer gulag and be sentenced to play and beat trashy mobile games like 'Raid: Shadow Legends' in order to be rehabilitated back into general society. --

Okay this is bad obviously but it’s honestly crazy to me that anyone would try to come to the US just for vacation right now.

I can’t believe I was detained and deported when I tried enter Germany to go celebrate my birthday in Berlin in this beautiful year 1938

I read a book a long time ago called Travellers in the Third Reich. It was crazy how so many people (usually rich socialites and failsons) went to Nazi Germany and just got on like everything was normal. They went to parties and went sightseeing and drank with friends as if everything was fine, even knowing how reprehensible the Nazis were.

I get the impression that it's pure treat brain. People want to have their fun holidays and look at the tourist sites before they want to stop genocide.

There's a Swedish police procedural series from the '60s written by Marxists and in one installment a detective rips into a lady trying to seduce him because she'd been vacationing in junta-led Greece.

That's hilarious. A true comrade detective.

During the US Civil War people used to go picnic on hills near battlefields to watch it all happen.

People are weird

They also would have black mothers breastfeed at carnivals, so white people could play "hit the n***** baby” by throwing baseballs at the babies' stomachs, to watch them vomit. And used black children as gator bait.

Genuinely like why the fuck would you come here just for fun right now? Especially since you should know that exactly this situation is very likely and could honestly have gone down worse.

My reaction on some level too.

Whenever someone I know says they are going on holiday to America I lose a good deal of respect for them. There's so many reasons to go literally anywhere else. Not least, the cost.

It's like, you want to go on holiday somewhere where you can eat even more expensive McDonald's and pay a fortune to get around because there's no public transport. Oh, oh sorry I didn't realise that you wanted to go to the Star Wars world at Disney, my bad...

I can see it if you wanna see like the grand canyon or something. But not right now in this current political environment

She visits New York multiple times a year. I think there should be a lifetime cap on trans oceanic flights, at least for pleasure

Seeing the national parks before they're privatized and rich people put vacation houses there?

[–] P1d40n3@hexbear.net 30 points 1 month ago

Fuck this fascist country.

There was not much love in Swizerland for Americans to begin with and now there's certainly even less.

Just anecdotal, but I noticed the comments on social media in general getting more pro-China and anti-US, which was unthinkable just a year ago.

[–] yogthos@lemmygrad.ml 14 points 1 month ago

critical support for comrade Trump

I've noticed it too, but with more like reluctant acceptance of the state of things, which are phrased like "not even China would do X!".. The shackles of chauvinism is still there, it's only getting rusty..
