Too many people pearl clutching today over worries of retributive violence, as if the fascists aren't already going to be committing that violence on us in the near future regardless. It's not too early to say that this scumbag deserved much worse and I'm glad he got rocked so publicly. Mods I'll understand if you delete this and I'm truly sorry for the trouble if you do, I just need a personal break today from the media cacophony of liberals collectively reconciling with the realization that we live in an abnormally and horrifically violent society.

The onion had a good headline, 'Charlie Kirk loses gun control debate by a longshot'

[–] livejamie@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 day ago

Where? I want to share it.

All I can find is "Trump: ‘Political Violence Has No Place In My Inner Circle’"

I don't know a lot about him, I'm not US American.

I condemn violence in general but a person like him who helps polarize society, pours oil in the fire etc. may just reap what he sowed.

That's what you get, with culture war nonsense and playing sides of the political spectrum against each other. Strange to assume this would just stay rhetoric.

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

Main difference between him and someone else fueling the fire is the irony.

He specifically supported people bringing guns to schools wiith quotes that essentially boil down to "Gun violence happens but we just have to live with it to protect our god given rights."

He was the reason he could get shot.

i switched over from reddit recently and this post makes me here to stay. Got a loud laugh out of me after reading all the undeserved sympathy this guy was getting.

I've been wondering for awhile now - at what point do ppl just start killing these fucking ppl. I guess that's today. Hopefully this a lesson/reminder in why you don't treat your fellow man like fucking dogshit, cause they just might tear your fucking throat out!

[–] CptEnder@lemmy.world 13 points 2 days ago

Yuh got permabanned from Reddit for telling alt right dude they only bitch when one of their own FO in the FAFO and that Nazis deserve sunflower seeds. Lmao that site is a joke.

Imagine leading a life where millions are giddy over your death.

I literally cannot recognize Charlie Kirk without his tiny face shrunken slightly further down.

How many people have been snatched off the street and disappeared to secret prisons recently? Those people I am concerned about, this bigoted asshole eating lead while spewing bullshit…not at all. There is violence going on already and while I don’t wish for more deaths, there is no rehabilitation for a Nazi

[–] NatakuNox@lemmy.world 69 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Bruh... We are in for an explosion of political violence... Only difference between now and the past is white wealthy men are the targets. Watching them freak out when they are gunned down on a random Wednesday is laughable. Welcome to your average black Americans reality. Police killings are political violence but no one with actual power ever gave a shit.

[–] wheezy@lemmy.ml 12 points 2 days ago (1 children)

And your average kid in elementary school. Our society has successfully normalized violence literally against children. I feel like we're not far away from "pedophiles really aren't that bad actually" being said by our politicians.

And they want me to care about a fucking piece of shit like Charlie Kirk turning into a fountain of blood while no one else was hurt? Literally top 10 clean kills in history.

The only sympathy I feel is for people that had to feel the trauma of that event. No one there knew they were not also targets. The panic and fear they must have felt in that moment. That is my only sympathy for this situation.

[–] NikkiDimes@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Yeaaaah, when he was asked how many transgender shooters were in the us in the last 10 years, he answered too many and the crowded roared in applause. I give no fucks about their trauma.

[–] Cedar@lemmy.ml 70 points 2 days ago (5 children)

Someone said “he died as he lived: talkin’ out the side of his neck.”

Perfection.

I feel like THIS is retributive violence. Democratic politicians were earlier shot dead in their homes, so I'd say that republicans (who are themselves endorsing political violence) shouldn't be able to feel safe either.

[–] balderdash9@lemmy.zip 78 points 2 days ago (14 children)

The Republicans are only going to talk about violence against them. They have a victim mentality and Charlie boy is now a martyr.

[–] fodor@lemmy.zip 18 points 2 days ago

I don't think his name will linger in memory very long. The pro gun crowd doesn't care when people die, they just don't. And they'll happily use his name for a little while, but it's not like they actually valued his life any more than they value the lives of the children who die from routine school shootings every year. They'll forget about him soon enough.

It's sad to say that, too. We'd like to imagine that these gun lunatics have some sense of empathy with their political allies, or other humans in general, but many of them just don't. And because they don't feel that at all, they can't even fake it, not for long.

Trump ordered flags to half staff. For a fucking shitposter. 2 congresspeople in MN get gunned down and nothing.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 28 points 2 days ago

Kirk promoted gun violence to justify the 2nd amendment. It would be poetic justice if the killer was someone whose loved one died from gun violence and chose to give him a taste of his own opinion.

Fountain of blood is an understatement. It looked like special effects. The guy went out like a DOOM villain. He died gargling on his own blood.

I feel for all the people who will have to live with the fear and trauma of witnessing this. I’m glad nobody else was hurt. This type of violence is a consequence of our gun-obsessed and highly politically polarized culture, which Kirk had a massive hand in making worse. I hope we can focus on the damage his rhetoric has caused and those who were taken in by him can use this as a learning moment.

yeah you shouldn't advocate for gun violence when you have a massive critbox yourself.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 36 points 2 days ago

Lol.

So long asshole.

Ran your mouth one day too long.

[–] expatriado@lemmy.world 59 points 2 days ago (4 children)

dude had a big face or small face depending on how you define face, i see why the shooter didn't want to overcomplicate and went for the neck

[–] mgnome@piefed.social 65 points 2 days ago

If he got shot in the head - no vital organs would've been hit tho.

I have to admit, the Republicans were right about the second amendment. We need to be (legally) buying guns and (legally) protesting with them.

It was while he was being asked about gun violence that he was shot, the student says.

Unbelievable.

[–] infinitesunrise@slrpnk.net 106 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Specifically, he was in the middle of spinning a question about mass shootings into a dog whistle about "gang violence".

[–] mrgoosmoos@lemmy.ca 65 points 2 days ago (1 children)

mass shootings committed by trans people, specifically

[–] Glide@lemmy.ca 97 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (6 children)

The order of events as I've been seeing online:

Videos circulating on social media showed an attender at the student event on Wednesday asking Charlie Kirk: “Do you know how many transgender Americans have been mass shooters over the last 10 years?”

In response, Kirk said: “Too many,” as the crowd clapped.

In a follow-up question, the attender asked: “Do you know how many mass shooters there have been in America over the last 10 years?”

Kirk replied: “Counting or not counting gang violence?”

His last act on earth was cracking a joke about how only queers and poors are involved in gun violence, at which point he was shot.

They’re already committing violence. It’s just directed against brown people, we shouldn’t forget that. The level they expand and escalate it to is what’s up for debate.

[–] gndagreborn@lemmy.world 29 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Dude, I watched a youtube video of local news stations reporting over the shooting. The youtube comments are completely deranged and 100% written by AI. Somehow charlie kirk is being equated to MLK Jr.
