It's pretty balsy to publicly show such blatant antisemitism when your very career is dependant on public opinion. Only it isn't because hate against others, be it jew, muslim or gay, is what gets you the votes these days. Times are tough, so instead of looking to better ourselves and our situations, it's easier to blame others and punish them for our faults. Poland is a christian country (all of europe is in essence) and this is technically the most christian thing you can do.

the sad thing is his rotten-brain voters support this incident

Edit: and launched a fundraiser for his legal defense now

Edit: the fundraisers are down

Antisemitic voters obviously exist and he just ensured they vote for him.

he was already expelled from this session of parliament

poland is also the most rapidly secularizing country in the world by some measures, and that motherfucker in question is catholic fundamentalist. even his own party condemned him, and i won't be surprised if he gets stripped of immunity over that (but everyone will forget about that by then)

Poland is rapidly secularizing? i dunno, but if it is it still has a very very far way to go. Also as far as i am aware communist Poland was quite secular, but saw an extremely strong ressurgence of fundamentalist catholicism with the downfall of the communist government.

i'll leave as an exercise for you to find out why 2137 is a funny number in polish memes. start here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2137

Asked just after the incident if he was ashamed, Braun replied: β€œThose who take part in acts of satanic worship should be ashamed.”

I can maybe see one branch of Abrahamic religion calling another heretical, but calling any of them satanic seems like a pretty difficult claim to make.

[–] skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de 9 points 9 months ago (1 children)

he's a catholic fundamentalist (so: against abortion, LGBT rights, sex ed, and divorces), monarchist, full on crackpot (climate change denier, covid denier and antivaxxer, he even denied that smog exists) and his activities align suspiciously with russian interests. do you really think he cares here about theological details?

[–] tryptaminev@feddit.de 3 points 9 months ago

i mean christian fundamentalists tend to be the most hypocritical in terms of what the scripture says and whatthey claim as religious values.

[–] squaresinger@feddit.de 7 points 9 months ago

People like that usually have no clue about their own religion and far less about other religions.

A while ago there was a post about Netanjahus controversial speech where he referenced the story of Amaleki. And the poster seriously said that Netanjahu shouldn't be allowed to quote the christian bible...

In general, people who completely disregard the second highest commandment given by Christ himself (love your neighbor as yourself) are not christians and shouldn't be allowed to claim they are.

[–] reverendsteveii@lemm.ee 5 points 9 months ago

in this context, "satanic" doesn't mean anything other than "non-member of the in-group against whom I have endorsed violence".

[–] AnarchistArtificer@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I think "satanic" is being used in an adverbial sense, rather than as an adjective. By this, I mean that worship that is satanic in manner, which in this sense, means not Christian. By contrast, satanic (adj) worship would be something that actively involves worship of Satan or Satanism.

That being said, I'm probably thinking about this more than he did.

[–] illi@lemm.ee 3 points 9 months ago

Which still doesn't make sense as Christianity essentiallu evolved from Judaism. They worship the same god (well, the Christian 3in1 god throws a wrench in it a bit but it is still the one god supposedly)

[–] ZC3rr0r@lemmy.ca 14 points 9 months ago (1 children)

This is truly ridiculously offensive. For him to do that, in Parliament, as a parliamentarian, is beyond absurd. I hope he's not getting away with this stunt without some form of reprimand or punishment.

Failure to do so makes Poland look really bad on an international stage and will probably inspire this nutcase to burn the building down when he decides to burn a Quran next or some other stupid shit.

[–] Jajcus@kbin.social 11 points 9 months ago (1 children)

He already got the maximum punishment possible in this office and the case will be passed to the prosecutor. Practically every party in the parliament condemned the incident. Even his colleagues from the far-right party were not eager to defend Braun.

And, of course, PiS, while rightfully condemning this behaviour, used it as an excuse to try to once again delay settings up the new government.

[–] ZC3rr0r@lemmy.ca 5 points 9 months ago

That's good to hear, as the article doesn't mention any reprimands. Thanks for helping restore some of my faith in the world.

Poland knows what to do with Nazis.

EVERYONE’S ANTI-NAZI UNTIL IT’S TIME TO BE PRO-JEW

[–] skillissuer@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 9 months ago

that motherfucker in question is off his rocker, and not pro-palestinian either. his solution to israel-palestine relations would probably involve crusades to reinstate chrisitan kingdom of jerusalem
