My feeling is that I've fallen off the mcu wagon. I watched quantumania and secret invasion. I didn't dislike Quantumania nearly as much as seemingly everyone else; I thought it was fine. Secret Invasion, however, was the biggest disappointment I've experienced in visual media since Rise of Skywalker (without which the bar would've been Attack of the Clones).

The only other things I'm interested in are Loki season 2 and Echo, but D+ doubled their price and so I canceled. C'est la vie, I guess.

Oof I dont want to imagine having watched only the two projects with the worst reviews out of them all

I have severe Marvel fatigue. Only made it halfway into Loki s02e03, dropped Quantumania about 30 minutes in. Not because I think they're bad, I just don't care anymore. The only post-Endgame thing I watched was The Marvels, which I thought was nice. Not great, but I felt entertained.

Calling this Phase 5 is silly, same with calling Phase 4, Phase 4.

We should have just had the "adventure" phase and let things happen and the world recover from Endgame. Then, around the time of Phase 6 start a new Phase 1 of the Multiverse Saga.

don't care anymore

I grew up on comics and was there all through the rest of the MCU, but this last bit just made me cancel my D+ subscription and stop caring about anything Disney is shoveling out. It’s not superhero fatigue, it’s bad writing fatigue that takes its audience for granted and assumes we’re too stupid to notice. Secret Invasion was the last straw for me, I absolutely hated it week after week and I was just like, “Why am I doing this to myself? Fuck it, I’m going to wait this out until they put more effort into their dumb writing.”

[-] mojofrododojo@lemmy.world 12 points 5 months ago

Secret Invasion was a debacle. The only time I wanted my money back from Marvel.

Well, Avengers 2.

Eternals.

Ok maybe we have to be honest - it's a big universe. And in every universe there's going to be a balance of great stuff, and not so great.

I dunno, that's where I'm at.

And the wind whispers... InHuMaNs...

[-] BURN@lemmy.world 12 points 5 months ago

I’m increasingly less interested with every release. There just feels like there’s no cohesive plan and no new, likeable characters. They’ve consistently introduced characters that just aren’t likeable for one or many reasons

[-] ADHDefy@kbin.social 5 points 5 months ago

Yeah, I knew it was bad when Loki, a show I really liked, dropped it's second season and I just didn't even care. I'm sure it's solid, I just still haven't seen it. It sucks because the MCU was like "my thing" that I was super into for a really long time. I geeked so hard over it. I still haven't seen Echo, either, or the last couple movies. It's a bummer.

Loki S2 is like the one truly good thing they released this phase. Watch it

[-] ApollosArrow@lemmy.world 12 points 5 months ago

Got3 and Loki S2 were great. The Marvels and What if were enjoyable to watch

Secret Invasion did not need to exist. While I did enjoy quantamania, I did question brining Kang into that specific movie.

[-] june@lemmy.world 3 points 5 months ago

Pretty much summed up my feelings.

I’m still excited about MCU and will continue to see the movies opening weekend. Haven’t had the chance to watch Echo, but am looking forward to it, and very much looking forward to Daredevil with all the news coming out about the changes being made.

[-] ApollosArrow@lemmy.world 5 points 5 months ago

Won’t spoil my thoughts on Echo. But I hope Marvel keeps making these spotlight projects showcasing minorities.

[-] gac11@lemmy.world 1 points 5 months ago

Just finished Loki season 2 last night. I was pretty impressed generally but wasn't a fan of the actual ending. I thought it would go a more interesting way. I won't add any spoilers in case anyone hasn't finished the season.

[-] ApollosArrow@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

Oh man, I loved ending. The show didn’t go in the direction I thought it would either, but the ending I felt was one of the more unique Marvel things they’ve done in a while.

[-] delitomatoes@lemm.ee 10 points 5 months ago

They don't connect to each other. GoTG3 was amazing. Secret Invasion was possibly the worst execution of that idea.

Antman and Loki were basically the Kang arc.

There's nothing to get excited about in the next phase.

They need to do a soft reboot at this point. Do X-Men and FF for 1 phase then do a X-Men Vs Avengers crossover.

Then they can get back to business as usual.

Worst case scenario, pay Downey and Holland boatloads of money to return as AI stark and older mentor Spidey.

Do it top gun style instead of star wars style.

[-] Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

The only movie next year is Deadpool 3. I think soft reboot is exactly what they're doing. Between X-Men, Fantastic Four, and Blade, they're leaning heavily on their new properties.

Also, I've heard that the Kang Avengers movies are shifting into Secret Wars.

[-] SuperNinjaFury@lemm.ee 6 points 5 months ago

Just a heads up, it's no longer 2023!

[-] CaptPretentious@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

I used to go to the movies in theater on release. I didn't personally know a single person who looked forward to the next MCU installment than I.

Early MCU could be hit or miss sometimes, but eventually it felt like they really had it figured out. I've long since stopped my D+ account and no longer care what's being released. The writing and direction is awful. It's kind of got me thinking of the MCU much like my opinion changed on GoT after those last 2 seasons.

[-] Omegamanthethird@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

I liked Phase 4 a lot. Comparatively, I think Phase 5 has been a letdown. I might revise this later, but here are some thoughts from worst to best.

Ant-Man 3 was really bad. Down there with Thor 4 and Thor 2. Maybe worse. As OP says, the cutoff is pretty arbitrary. I would have considered this a Phase 4 movie.

Secret Invasion was pretty bad. But not as bad as Iron Fist or The Inhumans.

Loki season 2 was fine. But a huge letdown compared to season 1.

I'm only 1 episode into Echo, it seems okay so far. Better than some of the slower Netflix shows like Jessica Jones season 2.

I'm halfway through What If, good but not as good as season 1.

The Marvels was a lot of fun. I think it fits right in with a lot of the middle of the road MCU movies like Ant-Man or Iron Man 2/3. Better than Captain Marvel.

Groot is great. Better than season 1.

Guardians 3 was phenomenal. Close to a top 5 movie. But it's a crowded field up at the top.

[-] Microw@lemm.ee 5 points 5 months ago

Obviously some of those have low reviews. Also, the line between phase 4 and 5 seems like arbitrarily drawn and whilst I understood why phase 4 had no overarching storyline, I dont know why phase 5 projects still don't connect to each other.

Is there a point in phases anymore? Most projects seem to be standalone, but carry over certain small stories. Which is fine by me for most movies. But we still dont have any overarching Avengers storyline.

For me personally, I loved GotG 3 and properly liked Loki S2 as well as Echo. I liked The Marvels as an entertainment film without thinking too much about it. Don't want to talk about SI, the first (and second) episode had so much potential for a proper spy thriller... The others I havent seen.

After endgame to sheer amount of content to watch was so much for me, and then Quantummania dropped and that was the last movie I was in cinema for. Damn did I hate it. Up to that point I was watching everything, but that just killed it for me. I still watch the shows, but I don’t care as much now. The only movie I’ll go to cinema for will be Deadpool, cos it’s Deadpool, but otherwise no thanks.

You don’t appreciate the movies and shows as much if you don’t know the background (past movies and shows). But it’s difficult to know that cos there is soooooooo much to watch. If you’re new to MCU, you’re screwed

When The Marvels is released on Disney+, it will be the first time since Avengers: Endgame where a viewer could stream all the movies and tv shows before the theatrical release of the next movie. Nearly three years of movies, few considered to be among the best, and they never gave fans who missed seeing one in the theaters a chance to catch up.

Deadpool 3 could be the relaunch the MCU desperately needs.

[-] Microw@lemm.ee 1 points 5 months ago

Thats a good point that I never thought about. I definitely heard a few people say "uh I dont wanna watch movie a, because I havent seen movie b yet"
