How is this at all liminal?

[-] Fades@lemmy.world 9 points 5 months ago

It’s not.

Liminal spaces are usually eerie because they're empty, but the word applies to places that are eerie because they're abandoned, too.

Liminal does not mean eerie. This image does not depict a liminal space.

Wikipedia:

liminal spaces are empty or abandoned places that appear eerie, forlorn, and often surreal.

I don't know. As far as I'm concerned, it's "I'm get the fuck out of here!"

[-] HonoraryMancunian@lemmy.world 2 points 5 months ago

I think it's the assumed temporariness for the Big Boys. It's pretty eerie, forlorn and surreal too.

[-] db2@lemmy.world 15 points 5 months ago

That chain won't be enough.

[-] FlyingSquid@lemmy.world 7 points 5 months ago

Japan still has Big Boy restaurants. Most of them still have their statue out front in various states of disrepair.

[-] JaymesRS@literature.cafe 9 points 5 months ago

Well, in many ways, the Big Boy never left, sir. He's always offered the same high-quality meals at competitive prices.

[-] aeronmelon@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

Is that from Austin Powers?

America does too. We used to eat at one in Burbank, CA when we live in Los Angeles all the time.

[-] EdibleFriend@lemmy.world 6 points 5 months ago

The usage of the words pretty much is very strange but for some reason I like it
