Mercenaries without a leader , what could possibly go wrong

[–] Ryan213@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

blyat, time for me, Ruskvy Ryan to step up and take the lead.

[–] NegativeLookBehind@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Savink Ruskvy Ryan, in theaters next fall

[–] Ryan213@lemmy.world 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

"Next fall" as in next autumn, right? Not next fall like "fall in a plane crash?" Right??

[–] NegativeLookBehind@kbin.social 7 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Uh, yes comrade, of course. You are most honored hero. Please, come with me to 16th floor balcony.

[–] Ryan213@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Oh, that's very high. The view must be bolshoy!

Da, it’s to die for.

[–] CosmicCleric@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

For some reason your comment made me think of this game quote..

"There must always be a Lich King."

[–] Kyrgizion@lemmy.world 54 points 1 year ago (1 children)

This is almost a literal COD plot unfolding.Reality is stranger than fiction.

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (4 children)

Get us up to speed: how does it end?

[–] mean_bean279@lemmy.world 25 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Uhhh

“The numbers Mason, what does it mean”

Some bullshit in between

Ghost betrayal.

Wall running and then 360 no scoping while wall peering around a corner.

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 9 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I have no idea or understanding of what you just said—and I LOVE IT...

[–] mean_bean279@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

If it makes you feel any better the only way to play COD and understand it is to have ADHD and not remember a single point of the plot line.

However the quote “the numbers mason, what does it mean” is a cool quote and meme to use whenever someone gives me math I don’t want to do.

It’s not the end, but:

Remember: no Russian.

[–] GreenMario@lemm.ee 4 points 1 year ago

Call of duty never ends.

[–] avater@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

you mostly kill a shitload of bad russians

[–] cheese_greater@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago (1 children)

How do Russians feel about COD? Do they like it/participate? I'm not an Xbox/multiplayer guy generally...

[–] kmkz_ninja@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

If syka blyats are anything to consider, Russians prefer counterstrike.

“There’s a lot of talk right now about what the Wagner Group will do. We can tell you one thing. We are getting started, get ready for us,” the soldiers said in a translated video. It is unclear who they were directing their message to.

Damn. Chilling stuff. I'm chilled.

They are in the absolute middle of nowhere in Belarus, any organized movement is going to be easily countered before they get anywhere close to Russia

[–] Diplomjodler@feddit.de 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

By who? Uncle Luka will be glad to be rid of them.

[–] twistypencil@lemmy.world 1 points 1 year ago

Would be easy for Russia to do so

What if he just faked his death? Kremlin gets to look tough and he's free to walkaway from a losing war.

[–] JJROKCZ@lemmy.world 21 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Yea that seems like a great way to really have all the Wagner soldiers turn on Russia. They only stopped last time because the boss said to, if he’s gone there’s no one to stop them

[–] norbert@kbin.social 16 points 1 year ago (1 children)

There's also no one to pay them, which is usually fairly important to mercenaries.

[–] Buelldozer 9 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

There’s also no one to pay them

I wouldn't bet on that. The business side of Wagner should be intact. It's not like Prigz was hand writing checks to his tens of thousands of employees scattered all over Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and at least 6 more countries on the African Continent.

Wagner PMC is a business, a big one, and that means administrative staff running the day to day of recruiting, hiring, payroll, purchasing, and logistics. Those people weren't on that plane, or at least not enough of them to make any real difference.

[–] Hanabie@sh.itjust.works 11 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Wagner has just lost their head, I wonder if anyone inside the company is still able to take over, or if the Russian army will just assimilate or disappear them.

[–] Buelldozer 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

The Russian Military won't be able to "disappear" or assimilate Wagner. The situation on the African Continent entirely prevents it; Wagner needs to be there or a shit ton of $$$ will be lost and Russia cannot use regular / uniformed Russian soldiers for those...activities.

It's easy to forget because of Prigozhin's long association with Putin and the War in Ukraine but Wagner has a power base along with income streams that are entirely separate from Russia. They are truly a trans-national Mercenary group.

"The West" may take this opportunity to delete them but that probably wouldn't happen until after the reaction from Prigozhin's death has settled down. Wouldn't want to keep them from Marching on Moscow again after all.

[–] peopleproblems@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

I thought there would be an obvious head of the hydra, but since the other head of the PMC was also on that plane, Wagner is shook, unless, in some alternate reality where Wagner is more competent than other Russian organizations, they have procedures for this scenario.

Personally, if I was in charge of "my group" getting paid to do something in a part of the world away from Russia, I'd just remain under contract. Mercenaries hold no allegiance, other than the contract. maybe I'd reform an administrative structure with the other chunks of Wagner, but I certainly don't have the incentive to go back to Moscow.

[–] andrei_chiffa@lemmy.world 2 points 1 year ago

Russian strongmen culture does not tolerate well traitors.

Wagner mercs saw it first hand in prisons. Russian army saw it first had during the recruits mass-rape and torture nights.

Nobody is getting assimilated and they all know it.

[–] mashbooq@infosec.pub 8 points 1 year ago (1 children)

One of my favorite Ukrainian journalists mentioned that she'd heard Prigozhin had instructions to march on the Kremlin in case of his untimely death. She emphasized that it was more of a rumor than anything else, but interesting if true.

[–] roguetrick@kbin.social 6 points 1 year ago

I'd bark too if I realized I had no bite. Hope they cause some damage before they're purged.

[–] ProvableGecko@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Good news first the world is in great shape

[–] ladicius@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Didn't they already start like many years ago?
