Hello fellow Cyanide and Happiness fans!

About this community and how I post the comics… Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips. Of course these days you can read your favorite comics online instead of a newspaper, but I love the nostalgia of reading the daily comics. Anyway, one of my favorite current comics is Cyanide and Happiness and I will be posting the daily release from their website (https://explosm.net/) and a an extra or two randoms.

Cyanide & Happiness (C&H) is a webcomic created by Rob DenBleyker, Kris Wilson, Dave McElfatrick and Matt Melvin. The comic has been running since 2005 and is published on the website explosm.net along with animated shorts in the same style. Matt Melvin left C&H in 2014, and several other people have contributed to the comic and to the animated shorts… Read more: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cyanide_%26_Happiness

Hope you enjoy and feel free to contribute to the community with art, media, cool stuff about the authors, tattoos, toys and anything else, as long it’s Cyanide and Happiness related!

Who even gives a shit about body count? As long as things are STD-free, it's all good

[–] OpenStars@startrek.website 44 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I believe it is the lying that little dude is concerned about...

Case in point: she might also be lying about those STDs that she "totally" checked for (like AIDS) and "definitely" does not have, wink.:-P

Yeah, but why did she feel like she can't tell him the true number?

[–] Dirk_Darkly@sh.itjust.works 29 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Because they aren't real people and it is a comic.

[–] Slovene@feddit.nl 3 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (3 children)

No, because there are actual people who judge a woman if she likes sex.

[–] CaptnNMorgan@reddthat.com 3 points 9 months ago

Liking sex and being a hoe are two different things. Man or woman.

[–] WhiteHawk@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago

There's nothing wrong with that, just with treating people like disposable objects

[–] Menteros@lemm.ee 0 points 9 months ago

actual people who judge

Yeah people do that. About everything. Get over it.

As someone else said, the real answer is that this is a comic.

We don't really know from the OP whether they have been together for an hour, day, week, month, or even year (and he just never found the hoodies box yet?). Irl women are stigmatized with "slut shaming" for having multiple partners, and while men get stigmatized too this is not one of those ways. So irl she might have kept it from him until she was sure that he was mature enough to handle the truth. Although she could have also used it as a test - if he were a toxic masculinity believer, better for her to know the truth right away and get far away from him?

So there's deep stuff contextually related to this... but this is a newspaper comic community, so it is unclear how deep most people really wanted to get into the deep analysis of its backstory, unlike e.g. political memes where that is more the point.

Oh ah... I mean, b/c hers is bigger than his. :-P

[–] Anticorp@lemmy.world 24 points 9 months ago (2 children)

I'm definitely not interested in someone who refers to their sexual partners as their body count.

[–] HelloHotel@lemm.ee 7 points 9 months ago

I first read this as her murder victem count lol.

I think this is the line yeah. Number of sexual partners, whatever; but regressive attitude toward sex, ehhh, we probably aren't going to have a good time

Although I'm way beyond dating other people, so it's all academic to me now

[–] HowManyNimons@lemmy.world 21 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (2 children)

Apparently slut shaming is still a thing in the current year of our Lord.

[–] Habahnow@sh.itjust.works 18 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Not certain it's slut shaming so much as addressing lying. She told him 3 guys, when the mountain of stolen sweaters, and her profuse sweating implies it was more than three. I don't care about body count and I'm uncertain if the author does, but this joke is still funny if you don't care about body count.

[–] LarmyOfLone@lemm.ee 5 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago) (1 children)

Except for the little thing that the slut shaming was done earlier. When he asked her what her body count was. That's when the slut shaming happened and she avoided the repression by lying.

Or maybe I just don't get the joke. PS: Maybe she's a shoplifter?

[–] Habahnow@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

That's not slut shaming. If he reacted negatively to her number(being too high) or stated something of similar effect. None of which is shown. Asking for information is slut shaming.

[–] UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

The character in the comic does not look neutral about the discrepancy in numbers. Would the comic work if the evidence was that they had slept with 0 other people?

Seems pretty cut and dry to me that the comic is piggy backing on the culture of slut shaming. It's not the entire punchline, but it's in there

[–] Habahnow@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

The character is not neutral about the discrepancy in numbers because there's a discrepancy in numbers. I'd be a bit bothered if my SO lied to me about things too, especially such a large discrepancy that its obvious they're lying vs were accidentally wrong/forgot. "honey you said you bought 1 car, why are there 5 new cars in the driveway?" Of course they'll be made about the discrepancy in number of cars because its not the agreed upon number. Tell me how you would make the joke with 0 other people slept with? It obviously isn't cut and dry, most people are fine with the joke.

[–] UNWILLING_PARTICIPANT@sh.itjust.works 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Right because it's irresponsible to buy 5 cars. It's not that 5 != 1 that's the value judgement. Yes most people are fine with the joke. I wasn't claiming they weren't.

[–] Habahnow@sh.itjust.works 2 points 9 months ago (1 children)

If you can afford to buy and maintain 20 cars, but buy 5 after telling your partner you'd only buy 1, it does become problematic.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 12 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Apparently saying "of our lord" is still a thing in this blessed noodle year.

[–] ArcaneSlime@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 points 9 months ago

You're telling me, it's 26AX! Pra"Bob"!

[–] flicker@lemmy.world 10 points 9 months ago

I also prefer people who already know what they're doing.

[–] Kusimulkku@lemm.ee 7 points 9 months ago

I don't know if you're in some serious bubble but a plenty of people do. Like, a hefty chunk of people.

[–] johannesvanderwhales@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago

Definitely a thing where you're never going to be happy with the answer, so why ask?

[–] MashedTech@lemmy.world 4 points 9 months ago

Idk, in some circles, especially if you claim to be a prestigious killer, you have to be accurate about your body count. In some cases they might ask for proof.

[–] Chetzemoka@startrek.website 45 points 9 months ago (2 children)

Oh, you think I only steal hoodies from people I boned. Joke's on you, no hoodie is safe in my presence.

[–] jettrscga@lemmy.world 13 points 9 months ago

What you've committed is a class A felony, hoodie theft sans boning. Straight to jail.

If there was boning, the hoodie becomes a party favor that's handed out to guests to commemorate the event.

People give me their garbage hoodies. I take hoodies that are destined for the thrift store. They ask go on the back of my desk chair. I can't lean back too far out the weight of them will topple me backwards. Yes I'm happy living this kind of hoodie goblin existence.

The explanation is simple: shoplifting
