"Drug users can never know for sure whether the substance they are buying is what it’s claimed to be" is a solid argument for decriminalization. (Not sure where Finland stands on that.)

[–] gregorum@lemm.ee 24 points 7 months ago (1 children)

not just decriminalization, but full legalization, regulation, and regular quality testing.

and regular quality testing.

It's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it suits up

"Metonitazene is particularly dangerous because, in the worst case scenario, even a single tablet can lead to death. You can't tell what narcotics actually contain just by their appearance. Drug users can never know for sure whether the substance they are buying is what it's claimed to be," investigation head, Markku Juurikkamäki, said in the release.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metonitazene

Metonitazene is an analgesic compound related to etonitazene,[2][3] which was first reported in 1957,[4] and has been shown to have approximately 1000 times the potency of morphine by central routes of administration,[5] but if used orally it has been shown to have approximately 10 times the potency of morphine.[6]

...

Its effects are similar to other opioids such as fentanyl and heroin, including analgesia, euphoria, and sleepiness.[6][7] Adverse effects include vomiting, and respiratory depression that can potentially be fatal.[8] Because of high dependency potential and dangerous adverse effects it has never been introduced into pharmacotherapy. It is instead commonly used in the illicit manufacture of counterfeit-OxyContin opioid pills.

"...but if used orally it has been shown to have approximately 10 times the potency of morphine"

Per wikipedia, so grain of salt and all that. Still...

Vast difference in potency between fent and morphine.

[–] SpikesOtherDog@ani.social 2 points 7 months ago

I have very little pharmaceutic knowledge, so I don't even know what parts to be wary of. We could add 5 zeros to the potency difference and it would be just as believable.

Couldn’t have name in title?

[–] Synthuir@lemmy.ml 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Metonitazene btw, not carfentanil like I would have guessed.

[–] Viking_Hippie@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

Carfentanil: fentanyl specifically for road trips.

[–] gapbetweenus@feddit.de 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

It's like fentanyl with a gun.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 3 points 7 months ago

Fentanyl’s loan shark the day after the big game when they discovered fentanyl’s blown town owing them a whole lotta money

[–] originalucifer@moist.catsweat.com 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

what, is 1 grain lethal now?

[–] octoblade@lemmynsfw.com 5 points 7 months ago (1 children)

1 grain is equal to 64.79891 milligrams. This would be a lethal dose of fentanyl.

damn i was under the impression grain was smaller. wow
