Meanwhile:

Sinclair, Inc., doing business as Sinclair Broadcast Group, is a publicly traded American telecommunications conglomerate that is controlled by the descendants of company founder Julian Sinclair Smith.
Headquartered in the Baltimore suburb of Cockeysville, Maryland,[3] the company is the second-largest television station operator in the United States by number of stations (after Nexstar Media Group), owning or operating a total of 193 stations across the country in over 100 markets (covering 40% of American households) and is the largest owner of stations affiliated with Fox, NBC, CBS, ABC, MyNetworkTV, and The CW.

A 2019 study in the American Political Science Review found that "stations bought by Sinclair reduce coverage of local politics, increase national coverage and move the ideological tone of coverage in a conservative direction relative to other stations operating in the same market."[5][6]
The company has been criticized by journalists and media analysts for requiring its stations to broadcast packaged video segments and its news anchors to read prepared scripts that contain pro-Trump editorial content, including warnings about purported "fake news" in mainstream media, while Trump has tweeted support for watching Sinclair over CNN and NBC. Yes — the fascists are just projecting their own actions and plans on Soros; the same with every single one of their accusations.

  • Sleepy Joe? Trump has dementia, and is obese.
  • Hillary will cause WW3? Trump sold nuclear secrets to the Saudis, and legitimately questioned why we can't simply nuke our enemies.
  • Hunter Biden's corrupt? Trumps direct family used their nepotism positions to "earn" several hundred million dollars.
  • Biden's tram is incompetent? Trumps team booked a press conference in front of a landscaping business.

And Sinclair, of course, has their own article on this which includes relevant details like:

Soros’s investment represents approximately one-sixteenth of his $6.7 billion net worth, which he has leveraged to donate to liberal policy initiatives and advocacy organizations. The financier used his Open Society Foundations to funnel at least $140 million to political justice and ballot causes in 2021.

and several completely relevant paragraphs on Vice Media to set up the totally necessary last line shamelessly suggesting that this wealthy, liberal Jew is corrupting our country with smut:

Last year, Soros bought Vice Media in a $350 million deal to progress the company’s proclaimed “uniquely differentiated” content highlighting edgy stories. Vice’s former CEO, Shane Smith, allegedly instituted a culture plagued by sexual harassment.

Subsequent company leaders claimed the financier would improve Vice’s substance.

“With the support of our investor group, we now have the resources to strengthen our business, our partnerships and our content creation across all platforms,” then co-CEOs Bruce Dixon and Hozefa Lokhandwala told Variety. “Under new ownership and with this leadership team, Vice is positioned to drive our uniquely differentiated brand of news, entertainment and lifestyle content that makes Vice a trusted brand for global audiences."

Vice has sections on the gender spectrum, drugs and sex with articles informing readers of risqué topics. The outlet has also highlighted illegal drug cafes and MDMA-using doctors.

[–] Fedizen@lemmy.world 22 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

the 30th richest billionaire is making some real moves on uh radio. Lets ignore the rest buying up newspapers, social media, local news etc.

[–] HootinNHollerin@lemmy.world 16 points 9 months ago (4 children)

I’ll never comprehend why anyone so rich and old keeps doing it and doesn’t just fuck off and live on a tropical beach

[–] bradorsomething@ttrpg.network 10 points 9 months ago

Being able to influence the course of events in the world can be very intoxicating.

[–] OldWoodFrame@lemm.ee 4 points 9 months ago

I'm sure plenty do. We only hear about the ones who don't fuck off. And that's probably among the reasons these ones don't.

[–] Duamerthrax@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

A lot actually do just fuck off, or at least keep their faces put of the news(cause they know what will happen when the revolution comes). The others are gambling addicts.

[–] ctkatz@lemmy.ml 9 points 9 months ago

chances that a liberal radio infrastructure develops in the company: zer0.

a liberal radio network can work in this country, but it has to be run by actual radio people. air america radio was not run by radio people.

[–] werefreeatlast@lemmy.world 0 points 9 months ago

No worries, just ignore it. That guy looks like he's about to keel over. Give it 5 years tops. That's something money can't buy.... Time or health....you can purchase healthcare all you want but at the end of the day, you hit 70, 80, 90 maybe and then you start regretting every next second until maybe you hit 115? Maybe 120.

Elon musk on the other hand, he's got shit going and he's gonna last a good 60 years if someone doesn't do him in before his time...you know accidents happen when you deal with ruzzia for example. You might be running for health one day and suddenly you drop feeling unwell and dead right before the first tweet about your death. It's a ruzzian thing. Maybe Elon should invest in ending putin.

Who even still listens to Radio though? Is this the 2010's?

[–] dhorse@lemmy.world 5 points 9 months ago (2 children)

You should listen and support your local community radio station. There are a lot of fantastic stations with music programming you won't get from an algorithm.

Ps fuck sinclair... even under soros they will be a top down radio station and won't have YOUR local communities best interest at heart.

[–] hightrix@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago (1 children)

Sorry, that ship has sailed. Far too many commercials or commercial like content on even local radio. It’s just not worth listening to.

[–] dhorse@lemmy.world 3 points 9 months ago (1 children)

I am a DJ on a local non commercial radio station. All music all the time. We do have show promos (i.e listen to face metal on Friday from 4pm to 6pm with your host dj sparkles) but no underwriting so we aren't shilling for a Corp at the top of every hour either.

If you are on lemmy you should be looking at what your local stations are doing to try to empower the local community.

[–] hightrix@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Thank you for this. As my comment said, I’ve completely written off radio as viable.

I’ll take a look into local stations again to see if there’s anything around me similar to what you are describing.

[–] SkybreakerEngineer@lemmy.world -1 points 9 months ago

Alex Jones got his start on local community radio. Let that sink in.

[–] GissaMittJobb@lemmy.ml 3 points 9 months ago (2 children)

I would not be surprised if it's big with people driving cars.

[–] OldWoodFrame@lemm.ee 3 points 9 months ago

Drive car, can confirm.

[–] teamevil@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago

Podcasts can be played in cars

[–] Beetschnapps@lemmy.world 1 points 9 months ago* (last edited 9 months ago)

“Heart of the beast” though…

[–] ctkatz@lemmy.ml 1 points 9 months ago

I listen to podcasts more than I watch tv. why podcasts? because I don't listen to music radio and the talk stations are either right wing syndicated crap or right wing owned crap, otherwise I'm listening to radio.
