Why do you put today's date when it was in the 1980s?
Sometimes the original date is contextually important

Hello fellow Far Side fans!
About this community and how I post the comic strip… Many moons ago, I would ask my Dad to save the newspaper for me everyday so I could read my favorite comic strips and one of those was The Far Side. These days of course you find just about anything online including www.thefarside.com where they post several comics a day and I repost them here. Just to note, the date you see in my posts is not the initial release date, but the date they were posted on the website.
The Far Side is a single-panel comic created by Gary Larson and syndicated by Chronicle Features and then Universal Press Syndicate, which ran from December 31, 1979, to January 1, 1995 (when Larson retired as a cartoonist). Their website reposts a set of random old comics which is reposted here every day.
If you didn't know... they aren't making new ones.
Larson has restarted publishing new Far Side comics, albeit very infrequently. The last appeared to have been posted several months ago.
He does make new ones occasionally. There is a section for his new stuff. None of it is on a schedule tho.

I think having it in the post body would be helpful.
I found these to be a bit offbeat until I read a comment a week or so ago describing these comics as “boomer absurdism” and amazingly those two words gave me something to grab onto to find the humor in the weirder ones. That’s the what made it click for me. A date would help too.
It's in the comic itself, look in the corner.
And today's date is in the Lemmy post. And whatever I use when I ask "hey, what's today's date?" - doesn't really add much to put it in the title.
Yeah lol this is a funny joke but the way he draws black people isn't exactly PC these days
I also always hide my VCR, when the anthropologists arrive.
