Does this mean that since Denisovans still lack a proper scientific name, they are now going to be homo longi?

We don't have this problem in Australia, where a sandwich is narrowly understood as being between two slices of bread cut from a loaf.

If it's on a bread roll it's not a sandwich it's a roll. If it's on a burger bun it's not a sandwich it's a burger. A sub is not a sandwich, it's a sub. A hot dog cannot be considered a sandwich, nor could a cake or anything else that's clearly not a sandwich.

A flyer for the camp on its website has a message written in Chin, a language spoken by people in the Chin state of Myanmar, according to USA Today.

A Google translation of the message reads as follows: "Is there anything in your life that you cannot overcome? Are you worried about your health? Do you want to go to the next level in your relationship with the Lord? That’s good news for you!

"Come to Shekinah Glory Camp and participate in what the Lord is doing through the power of the Holy Spirit through the man of God in Australia, teacher Rual Cung. You will never be the same.

So probably they're involved in trafficking children from Chin state, the poorest state in Myanmar, strongly effected by the civil war and 90% christian.

This is a truly US level of being uncomfortable with the basic fact of life.

One time I was trying to work out if the people at the next table were Australian. It was a crowded cafe so I was having trouble hearing them.

Then luckily one of them said, "Aw fuck I was fucking fucked eh?" and removed all doubt.

Fascism doesn't work that way.

This may be the most wrong thing I've ever heard on the internet. 👏👏👏 Have an upvote with your sad, skinless chips.

This is a common refrain online but doesn't really make sense.

Antisemitism means prejudice against Jewish people.

Separately, the technical term "semitic" is used to mean a subgroup of related afro-asiatic languages including Hebrew, Arabic, Akkadian, Phonecian, Assyrian, et al.

The fact that the word for prejudice against Jews contains a root word that refers to a different classification is just one of those weird language things - antisemitism has only ever meant prejudice against Jews.

They announced before the event that they had cancelled any elected officials who were planning to speak. They also said something like, "If you are told that the event is cancelled, that is just a rumor."

Ah, thank you! That makes a lot more sense to me now.

About an hour before Iranian state TV first reported loud explosions in Tehran, pizza orders around the Pentagon went through the roof

there are "a multitude of fast food restaurants in the Pentagon complex, but no pizza places"

the account noted three hours later that a gay bar near the Pentagon had "abnormally low traffic for a Thursday night" and said this probably pointed to "a busy night at the Pentagon".

Just some truly incredible analysis.

Pizza and gay bar traffic tipping the hand of global events is the cyberpunk dystopia I was hoping for.

I'd heard it was over flyers in a car but I was hoping there was more to it than that. That's a pretty flimsy threat to be capitulating to when we're fighting murderous fascists, and sets a bad precedent.

I was not aware of how thin dem majorities were. That's very important context, thank you.
