I've had it happen that i joined a community and commented in some interesting thread and only then noticed that it was 3 or even 6 months old

Proton warns to not use 2fa from Proton Pass for your Proton account.

Know that not everyone is like this, but it seems that the type of people you describe are the biggest shouters. There are people who have been fighting against climate change and 'the establishment' since the seventies or earlier, who do their best to always patiently continue to vote instead of giving up and not voting at all, who still join protests, discuss their views in the hopes of changing the perspectives of others. But they usually are just not the people who catch your eye. I'm a lot older than you, and i also still try to write to companies (sometimes even successfully change their product which is very encouraging), sign petitions, donate to certain causes, vote, answer questions when people ask for my opinion. I always was a bit of a rebel and i know of others who are too. I know that i am not alone in this. I was inspired by those lone rangers in the seventies who were already fighting against climate change, even though i don't know their names. They were usually portrayed in the media as the exaggerating crazies or hippies. But i'm not 'in your face' about it and i will only discuss things when other people approach me and ask me something. This takes away some of the hostility of other people who tend to feel attacked when i do things differently than they do. I always knew that i was never alone in my views. I might not know most of them but i know they exist. They always have. It might feel like you are alone, but you never are. And i feel like i do have a certain influence on my own personal environment. It makes some people think about certain things. They might even change, if only a little. At the very least, they now know from personal experience a person like me and can use my existence in conversations about certain topics, just as i could use those anonymous strangers who were putting up a fight in the seventies.

Within limits; if they become very flat, you wear them down and clearly pet them too often

I agree and basically, it's not a bug, it's a feature

Yes, there were studies where it was proven that these sounds are actively being reinforced by human interactions; cats learn that this works

[-] Papanca@lemmy.world 16 points 8 months ago

Sex scenes. Usually opening the door while passionately kissing and hastily undressing. So boring, i fast forward

Killing animals

Women having no function other than being a brainless stereotype

The black or asian guy dies

American movies not hiring actual actors who natively speak a foreign language

Slightly off topic maybe, but it dawned on me that what happens in this tale is not so different from what happens in Iran...and that made it even more terrifying, together with what is happening in the US with all those creepy right-wingers taking away women's rights bit by bit

I love sci fi movies/books where not many humans are left. Even though not all are small stories: The day of the triffids; I am legend; 28 days; i love those because of the shots you see of cities without people, with overgrown buildings that are falling apart, animals thriving. I also like other sci fi stories, but the ones i mentioned above provide a temporary relief from all the news about wars, hunger, heartless people, news that is caused by greedy, evil people who seem willing to destroy the weak, other species, and even the entire planet.

I honestly can't figure out what he is thinking: is he trying to kill of twitter because he doesn't care about it, or does he honestly belief that this will make good money? I feel like i'm watching a bouncing ball in a small room, you never know which way he goes next

I really try to make an effort to contribute. I sometimes still find it a bit uncomfortable - i remember the harsh ways people got called out/downvoted/got incredibly unkind replies on reddit-, but i try to do it anyway, if i feel i have something to contribute/something kind to say/have a question

Many people put some all-purpose cleaner on a sponge, clean and rinse. Instead, get a spray bottle and premix cleaner with the right amount of water. When cleaning, just spray and clean. You can do a long time with a spray bottle. It's a small tip, but it will save a lot of cleaner.

Edited to clarify

Hi all,

I hope i'm allowed to ask this, but i was wondering; do you buy your ebooks free from DRM? If so, where can you buy them, preferably globally?

EDIT: thank you all for your valuable comments, it's much appreciated! Have a great weekend :-)

Hi all, Perhaps a dumb question: I imported my google calendar into the proton calendar. I now seem to have 3 proton calendars (listed as my calendars in proton), but i only want one. The other 2 would then be deleted. I don't see a way to merge those calendars into the default one. Is there a way, or would i need to painstakingly copy all events into the default one?

Bug; comments gone? (lemmy.world)
submitted 11 months ago by Papanca@lemmy.world to c/lemmyconnect@lemmy.ca

Hi all, For days now I can't view any comments from any community with this account. I get a message that says: no comments. But at first, i got an api error i think ( i can't look it up to check, because today everything just says that there are no comments, even when it shows there are hundreds of comments). I can read the comments when reading them on the web, or with Jerboa for instance. And i have another account at beehaw, and there i can read the comments too.

Like the title says. I've been reading recommendations about this OS, so i went to look on their homepage, but you can only install it on Pixel phones, which are from google, right? In other words, to get rid of google products, you still have to spend your money on google? Am i missing something? I thought there were other custom roms where you can choose whether or not to add to add google products? Please be gentle, i'm a noob when it comes to custom roms. I have had CyanogenMod on a phone many years ago, but someone helped me do it. And i'm really not current with changes in recent custom roms.

So, just got a notification about google's new enhanced safe browsing. It says: To help protect your account and data, Enhanced Safe Browsing for your account checks for risky: - URLs - Downloads - Browser extensions - System information - Small sample of pages

How it uses it:

  • Uses information from Enhanced Safe Browsing to improve your security in Google Chrome and Gmail when you're signed in.
  • Temporarily associates information from Enhanced Safe Browsing with your Google Account when you’re signed in to help protect you across Google apps.

It seems to me as if, whenever they come up with new changes, it's a double edged sword where they claim everything gets better and safer, while my paranoid mind just sees it as new tricks to get even more data...

In other words, a community where proton does official announcements, such as downtime for maintenance, new services and so on?

I know of another community too !protonprivacy

I don't know if they are 'official' neither and asked them the same thing.

No judgements, just wanted to know the status, so to speak

Cissus discolor (lemmy.world)

This has been one of my absolute favorite plants. I already had a huge one that grows on a big trellis - mounted on the wall (and then searches everywhere for new spots to cling to, slowly overtaking the wall at every opportunity it gets), but i wanted a second one as a hanging plant. This one is actually propagated. On april 19 i put three completely leafless stems in water. First, it started growing some tiny leafs, next came the roots. It is a fast grower. The backside is a dark red. Many people think it is a begonia, but it has no relationship to begonias. Last summer i had to leave for three weeks and it dried out and lost most of its leaves and then did nothing much. I thought i lost it, but repotted it and removed the dead leaves and low and behold, it started sprouting leaves all over the stems, surpassed the top of the trellis, and now already found a painting to cling to :-)

This is a succulent that flowers every year for me, with cute purple flowers. If you look carefully, you see tiny ‘hairs’ here and there. I belief those aid in collecting dew. It sits in a south window.
