I thought about this once. it would work but having a clearnet side and an onion side eliminates most if not all advantages of the onion site. We can't hide the server IP, we still lose federation if the clearnet domain gets seized or otherwise disappears, etc.
bleepbloopbop
that was pre-federation but I think that we could still save all the posts, it would just fill other instances DBs with junk perhaps
if it is saved in your browser you can get it out of there and copy paste it into chapo.chat
https://toots.matapacos.dog/@hexbear
or I'm sure people will post on lemmygrad
But hopefully it doesn't come to that and there is a smoothish transition from chapo.chat to the new domain
thank @makotech222 for that
yep, it's still a big fucking problem.
only if you go to hexbear.net or an app on your computer or phone makes a request there in the background
you bet? Which is somehow caused by having too many admins? Okay lmao
:this:
not 100% sure that's true about sending DMs to users on other instances (activitypub uses public key signing to ensure data integrity so I'm assuming they couldn't do so without those keys from our DB), but certainly they could put up a honeypot and try to ID users.
Did you read the post? One admin had access to the domain registrar, and is unavailable, not one admin of a whole group going rogue. More admins having shared access to the accounts would actually have solved this issue
live.hexbear.net will not save you
chapo.chat might for now
presumably that will be fixed before the domain auction is over but yes
