Sauber pit stops especially were good! Remember they kept dropping bits last season? They had some super quick stops today. Love to see it

Seems pretty fair. The f2 race yesterday shows you what else could happen

I am prepared to treat p3 as p1 for the purposes of today. Stupidly swapped Ferrari out for Mercedes in my fantasy this week...

OK great, that sounds pretty good for your saddle height then! Easiest way to change your riding position from there is with your stem and handlebars, I wouldn't mess with the fork itself.

If you want to be more upright you can try a stem that's shorter and has some rise to it, to bring the bars higher and closer to you. There's all kinds of different handlebars that have rise to raise your riding position as well. Bike shop can advise on that if it's something you aren't comfortable doing yourself.

But to be honest 45° is a fine angle, so unless you're finding it really uncomfortable or it's hurting your hands or wrists, I'd say your bike fit is probably OK!

Another thing to review is your riding position and bike fit.

You'll notice people on road bikes will have their bodies very horizontal which allows them to put more power in to the pedal strokes. At the other end of the spectrum you have a kind of Dutch riding position where the body is straight up. This will be inherently slower just because it's more relaxed.

riding positions

On an XC bike in the city you are probably somewhere in the middle of those positions, i would guess.

Then it is good to make sure you have your saddle at the right height so you are able to use all your leverage. If it is too low then you'll be pushing more with your knees and you'll need to spend more effort to move the bike. You want your leg to be almost but not fully straight when you have the pedal at its lowest position.

I agree with the other comment that if you're already doing those kinds of distances, if you keep riding then your "bike fitness" will come together quickly.

A good enough reason to ignore Brave tbqh

The UK government's response to the petition is an extremely long winded way of entirely missing the point surely? The main thing is offline games which should theoretically work indefinitely assuming the hardware and operating system is the same.

Although it does make me wish we could go back to self hosting fps servers, those were the days..

I'm visiting Rotterdam next week and usually when I'm there I catch the formula 1 at Panenka. Devastated to hear it is closed! Nicest sports bar I've ever been in. Is there anywhere similar in the city to watch F1 on the big screen with drinks, with a nice atmosphere? Or in Utrecht maybe?

EDIT > we went to paddy's near the WTC and it was really a lot nicer than I expected, just in case anyone arrives on this post in the future

m.2 SATA SSD advice (lemmy.world)
submitted 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) by calamitycastle@lemmy.world to c/buildapc@lemmy.world

I'm waiting on a standoff kit to come in the mail, as this is my next troubleshooting step

I bought this SSD to fit into a thin client. I am new to stick drives so I think it's correct that I can only insert it one way due to the M-key (my port only has one divider, unlike the memory stick).

I don't have a standoff so the stick is in but at a slight angle.

The PC has no operating system yet so is it correct that a blank drive should show up in the BIOS at least? It shows the m.2 slot as being empty currently. Or is it potentially readable as is, but needs something on it to format it?

The plan is to chuck Debian on it to boot into, via a thumb drive, but I wanted to make sure it was at least installed correctly (I mean, it isn't because it should have a standoff).

If when my standoff kit arrives, the drive still doesn't show in the BIOS what would you recommend I do next?

EDIT: thank you so much for the advice so far! I added a standoff and I can now see 500Gb in the BIOS. Truthfully it might have already been recognised, there is a section for M.2 in the BIOS which was reading empty but it also lists primary hard drive and it's showing up there. Now to install me some Debian

I'm watching it and trying to figure out if it's like a parody video or a serious recommendation?

The comments on the video are super weird as well. Can someone please tell me I'm not going crazy and that the majority of the people in the YT comments have been huffing solvents / aren't real?

Also fishing for any good 'best way to clean your drivetrain' videos that are less weird and potentially wrong

Watching the f1 academy live and it's crazy that they're still on the track, trundling around behind the safety car

Anyone Europe side know of a good easily removable bike light set that recharges with USB-C?

I had knog blinders on my recently stolen bike which I liked but they were USB-A and it was starting to get annoying to recharge them

Please forgive the annoying asking for info post

I have 100Gb of stuff on Google drive and I want to move it in house, I guess via Nextcloud? At the same time I want to try things like self hosting Notesnook and a few other things like ad blocking the home network etc

I was going to try starting with a raspberry pi 5 with 8Gb of ram and an SSD and some form of Linux obvs but in my limited reading I've seen that's very not recommended for Nextcloud.

Key things are low power usage/quiet, I'm not THAT fussed about download speed to other devices but keen to avoid as much lock in as possible. Budget around £200-300 to start with.

I've seen recommendations for thin clients, kinda like the idea of a NUC but they're pricy for the form factor. Having it be small would be a plus but I do have an old windows 8 machine from 2013 in the cupboard in an ATX case but the power supply draw feels like it would be excessive

Hints appreciated or tell me which community to go check, thanks in advance

EDIT: Thanks for all the hints!

Caught up with this yesterday. On the positive side, no issues with the homebrew, it all feels pretty normal so far. Not sure the story was "enough" perhaps for 2.5h of play but there were some good funny moments.

I guess what we've realised from gatewalkers is that long combat rounds is what they should ideally try to avoid, especially at these lower levels. This cast excel at talking to goofy NPCs who drive the plot forwards, so give them more of that!

More of a transitional episode this week. I'm gonna be bummed if we don't get a good payoff from Hubert! I feel like troy has put a lot of effort in to his arc as someone who mistrusts the party; there must be some larger reason why?

Really enjoyed this! Characters are super interesting, I love Sydney's mad voice...

Unclear where Matthew's repetition catchphrase is going to come from.

So far so good!

I'm gonna start posting a bit about shows on the network... The previous episode of the GCP, Room 309, was the first one from the new show that made me sad to have to wait for the next episode, and this week's didn't disappoint.

I totally get why people on the reddit are calling for the uncanceling of the show, I kind of agree! I think Barnes and Zephyr as characters need a bit of fleshing out but Gik, Ramius and Buggles are great characters and I'm stoked they're finally getting in to the back story stuff that they obviously put so much work into.

I've enjoyed these recent episodes because of the jokes and all the roleplaying.. Turns out chunky multi episode fights with single monsters isn't really what I want to listen to!

My favourite stuff on the network hands down is Get in the Trunk, but I also loved Haunted City and will be listening to Time for Chaos when it returns for sure. I need me some Ross Bryant in my ears!

Naish of Lemmy, how are you feeling these days?

This post inspired by the discussion on this week's Glass Cannon Radio re: Reddit

Or is this not possible on Lemmy generally?
