I don't think money is necessarily the problem as such, so much as having to take on Trump as a client. Nobody in their right mind wants to have him as their client, because they know he can't keep his mouth shut, has idiotic demands, and is also in the habit of not paying people who work for him.

Well, all that plus he's a piece of shit fascist cult leader.

I'm not entirely convinced putting the US in charge of it would make things any better. It's not like eg. Facebook or Twitter aren't full of reich wing bullshit on purpose

I'll start seeing conservatives as people when they extend me the same courtesy.

Honestly I think we're thoroughly fucked at this point

Same shit happened here in Finland too, our extremist right wing party is very active on TikTok and the under 25's voted for them in droves. That generation is more conservative than Millennials or even younger Gen X, which is a bit fucked up. Especially young men and boys have gone off the deep end

If OP's not from the US, turkey might not be an option – it's not very common in a lot of places here in Europe for example.

Might be an option to just buy cat food (after they recover from their injury) and hide it in their room if the stepmom is that controlling

Gah, honestly I'm not surprised at all she's like that, she sounds exactly like the type.

Fiscal consolidations lead to a significant increase in extreme parties' vote share, lower voter turnout, and a rise in political fragmentation. We highlight the close relationship between detrimental economic developments and voters' support for extreme parties by showing that austerity induces severe economic costs through lowering GDP, employment, private investment, and wages. Austerity-driven recessions amplify the political costs of economic downturns considerably by increasing distrust in the political environment.

Lähde: The Political Costs of Austerity,

Our assessment of the agenda is confined to the effects of two policies: removing restrictions on the movement of capital across a country’s borders (so-called capital account liberalization); and fiscal consolidation, sometimes called “austerity,” which is shorthand for policies to reduce fiscal deficits and debt levels. An assessment of these specific policies (rather than the broad neoliberal agenda) reaches three disquieting conclusions:

•The benefits in terms of increased growth seem fairly difficult to establish when looking at a broad group of countries.

•The costs in terms of increased inequality are prominent. Such costs epitomize the trade-off between the growth and equity effects of some aspects of the neoliberal agenda.

•Increased inequality in turn hurts the level and sustainability of growth. Even if growth is the sole or main purpose of the neoliberal agenda, advocates of that agenda still need to pay attention to the distributional effects.

Lähde: Neoliberalism: Oversold?

Tulee pakostakin mieleen Stafford Beerin lausahdus että "there is no point in claiming that the purpose of a system is to do what it constantly fails to do", ja että järjestelmän tarkoitus on se, mitä se tekee
