I'm in an echo chamber when I can't even speak my mind without having to either explain everything I'm saying or find alternative words to use because everything left of GW Bush is satanic, genocidal, aUtHOriTAriAn, fascist (lmao), or whatever other nonsense they come up with.

I'm in an echo chamber when it took me like 20 years of studying human behavior, countless books and conversations with experts like labor historians. All those stats classes, being a self taught engineer, living all over the US and even in other countries for a while, and all the other shit I've done in my life that has informed my opinions. Literally every communist I know over the age of ~35 (grew up before internet search was easy) spent years figuring out they were actually not a liberal or a god damn libertarian (US variety) or anArChO caPiTAlisT.

Me too, I'd rather work for a big corporation than most small businesses. The worst exploitation happens in all the shitty local bars/restaurants, construction, agriculture, etc. The dude running the local plumbing business is probably doing more fucked up shit to his employees than Walmart.

This isn't even sarcasm. Obviously the scale is worse for big companies and they contribute exponentially more to global problems, but God damn I've never been mistreated more than working for the local real estate investor who also owns a restaurant

This is where some of the problem is. Most people aren't even going to try to think about it, they're just going to believe what they already believe regardless of what happens. Conservatives are especially like this, but really just about anyone who isn't actively tearing down their own indoctrination is just nodding and smiling at everything around them like they've been trained to do their entire lives.
