Haven't you tankies considered that locally manufacturing bombs to murder brown children isn't perfect but it's good enough?

Obviously this is banality of evil stuff, but I also hate the way these people torture the language (usually still erroneously) to try and find a justification for something they know there is no moral justification for.

Take this example. The have to eliminate any and all other possibilities to justify it, so they reach for 'don't let perfect be the enemy of good' because it's binary. Except of course it's not. It's a phrase only looking at the extreme end of effort. Besides which, funding 'local' manufacturers in order to bomb children could never be described as 'good' in the first place. Even rhetorically (never mind knowing anything about how those 'local' arm manufacturers actually work - hint: they're extractive & global) it doesn't work.

Fuck these smug assholes. Just say you're a fascist and stop wasting all of our time.

Wow so you hate local business owners? You know most of them are Jewish? Are you antisemitic? Does Israel have the right to exist? DO YOU CONDOM HUMMUS?!

[–] take_five_moments@hexbear.net 10 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Wow so you hate local business owners?

yep

[–] prole@hexbear.net 6 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Me too, I'd rather work for a big corporation than most small businesses. The worst exploitation happens in all the shitty local bars/restaurants, construction, agriculture, etc. The dude running the local plumbing business is probably doing more fucked up shit to his employees than Walmart.

This isn't even sarcasm. Obviously the scale is worse for big companies and they contribute exponentially more to global problems, but God damn I've never been mistreated more than working for the local real estate investor who also owns a restaurant

but God damn I've never been mistreated more than working for the local real estate investor who also owns a restaurant

haha yea

You don't talk to enough libs, silly leftist.

See, if bombing brown kids has no moral weight or little moral weight, say -1 on the perfect western morality chart, and local manufacturing has a 2 on that scale, that means when to combine their moral value its 2-1=1 which compared to the situation of using other peoples bombs to brown kids is 0-1=-1, thus as you see, bombing brown kids with glorious eurobombs is good in comparison!

I will take my Nobel Peace Prize and my media tour now and remember to vote for me in my next election

Don't let good be the enemy of the bad!

[–] Babs@hexbear.net 42 points 6 days ago

"At least it will be us murdering kids and not the US"

[–] TerminalEncounter@hexbear.net 38 points 6 days ago (2 children)

The evergreen dichotomy in the liberal bourgeois west, "but dont be an asshole about it" vs "but dont be a pussy about it"

"We have to keep kids in cages but dont be an asshole/pussy about it"

"We have to break up strikes and unions but dont be an asshole/pussy about it"

"We have to bomb brown kids but dont be an asshole/pussy about it"

And on it goes; the terrain of acceptable political debate in bourgeois democracy

[–] spectre@hexbear.net 8 points 6 days ago

Hate to hand it to the South Park guys but...

[–] Lavender@hexbear.net 6 points 6 days ago

Ah, so this is the nuance liberals want. The centrism they claim is the moral good.

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 32 points 6 days ago

Zyklon-B was always going to be used to gas ze untermensch, at least we can fund German manufacturing

[–] sisatici@hexbear.net 31 points 6 days ago (2 children)

One thing that is quite astonishing is how capitalism can turn people into such fucking ghouls. And they say Soviets had good propaganda

[–] vovchik_ilich@hexbear.net 14 points 6 days ago

Ghouls? What do you mean? They're clearly arguing for the good thing that is local manufacture of children-murdering bombs! /s

[–] FuckyWucky@hexbear.net 32 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (2 children)

the only product west can manufacture is weapons?

[–] Meltyheartlove@hexbear.net 33 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

West also manufactures consent

[–] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 3 points 6 days ago

There are also racism factories.

[–] la_tasalana_intissari_mata@hexbear.net 17 points 6 days ago (1 children)

"weapons" that are only good against Africans and Iraqi kids, and fail miserably against anything that fights back

[–] CTHlurker@hexbear.net 7 points 6 days ago

I keep pointing out to anyone who will listen that any weapon that Denmark is willing to buy in order to "build up our defenses" is not going to work against anyone who might actually shoot back. This gets a lot of laughs from the veterans in my department and a lot of angry stares by the warrior-libs.

[–] mamotromico@lemmy.ml 27 points 6 days ago

This is probably the most disgusting usage of that phrase I’ve ever seen holy shit

[–] BelieveRevolt@hexbear.net 27 points 6 days ago (1 children)

Europe can, nay, must, have a little a war crime as a treat.

[–] sleeplessone@lemmy.ml 26 points 6 days ago

Europe standing there, groggy, holding its "don't talk to me until I've had my war crime" mug.

[–] mrfugu@hexbear.net 25 points 6 days ago

Ah yes you see we must engage in immoral and evil businesses because it’s good for the economy! nerd See you only think capitalism doesn’t work because you’re not fighting for every tiny scrap of capital regardless of the moral implications. stupid dummy head. I mean, you wouldn’t have to if it weren’t for immigrants and globalism but capitalism is definitely not the issue trust me.

don't let perfect be the enemy of good

It's not good! What about this is good? Manufacture something else! Fund schools! Feed people. Develop the potential of your society.

It's not even the "best bad option under empire." This is the worst possible option. You are only destroying other societies, not improving your own.

I think what this comes down to is nationalism and the appeal of strength. This guy just likes the idea of building up his nation's MIC.

As a professional computer toucher who works among the techbros, a lot of them are also convinced that if the US doesn't step up and make advanced child bombing contraptions, then the US's enemies (namely China) will rise and inflict even greater torment on the world. "Just look at what they're doing to the Uyghurs!"

[–] sharkfucker420@lemmy.ml 22 points 6 days ago

Its just in the nature of brown kids to get bombed I guess. May as well make money off it

[–] BodyBySisyphus@hexbear.net 24 points 6 days ago

Your problem is that you haven't joined the Reality-Based Community, where bombing brown children is both inevitable and agentless, like gravity. If you don't build systems to harvest the associated economic activity, you're just letting it go to waste.

[–] plinky@hexbear.net 21 points 6 days ago

these are the people making mud pies arguments.

[–] picklemeister@hexbear.net 22 points 6 days ago

the lesser satans are still very much satans.

If a building within 100 meters of you got blown up by a foreigner you would rethink your entire position on the acceptability of wanton violence. Or you'd reveal yourself as a bloodthirsty hogmonster which is a choice as well, I suppose - but at least you'd be honest.

Violence sucks. It blows me. I wish it didn't take the contextualization of horrific things happening to the person in particular to change hearts and minds. It would take sensibilities much different than mine to understand the trauma and fear that violence begets and also call it the cost of doing business.

Settlers (J. Sakai)

[–] CommunistCuddlefish@hexbear.net 2 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Argument invalid, any local manufacturer who is getting rich making bombs to murder brown children is a local manufacturer whom I hate and do not want getting that money.

[–] vovchik_ilich@hexbear.net 1 points 5 days ago

Trickle-down economics. Bombs trickle down on brown children, weapon manufacturing oligarchs get rich
