It’s kind of like an older sibling that picks on you but loses their shit if someone else tries to.

  1. Who are they talking about?
  2. I hope they never get a partner because who know where their lips have been too

(Thinking through that last one they probably want a “pure” virgin)

Do you want another Rodney King? Because that’s how you get another Rodney King.

Why is that? It’s not an efficiency thing, EVs are far more efficient than and manual will ever be. It’s not a shift thing, humans haven’t been able to outshift automatics for quite a while and EVs don’t have gears. The only think I ever hear is a flimsy “soul” thing, which frankly EVs give power to masses more than any Mustang GT could. Hell, Hyundai started putting in fake “gear shifts” into their EVs for people who wanted that.

Still better than the Pontiac ~~Chevy~~ Aztec

Edit: wrong GM brand

Yeah the nice thing about EV motors, they can vary their power output hundreds of times per second so they don’t need a transmission as it can basically do everything a transmission can right from the motor. Some cars even put the motor in the wheel so you don’t need a drive axle. Overall the mechanical complexity of EVs are greatly reduced.

For an EV conversion it makes sense that you’d lock things to a single gear as you wouldn’t want to stress out the transmission from sudden power variances.

manual transmission EV

For what reason? Almost all EVs only have a single gear. The high performance ones will have two as most and that’s well into the triple digit mph. Reverse doesn’t require seperate gearing either.

Willful negligence is still as bad if not worse than Ignorance

Japan’s long-standing efforts to protect domestic farmers from outside competition, including limiting imports of foreign rice

Here’s the why in case anyone is wondering. It’s not a global issue.

Final Fantasy VI has almost 30 minutes of credits. Well worth it for the 50+ hours you can put into it. And the music is so worth it (it’s an epilogue more than just scrolling text)

And Isis was also a name before the terrorist organization. Sadly lexicons change over time.

(But that is a cool history)

Just a heads up for anyone moving to new instances, though you can migrate your community subscriptions, any subscriptions to communities hosted on Lemmy.ee will break as well because they’ll no longer exist. Keep an eye out for where they end up so you can update accordingly.

Now that lemm.ee is shutting down, where are people moving to? I don’t want to move to world or ml, but a lot of others feel too nitch to be federated with a lot of things.

I think part of the reason that many Americans have the mindset they do is because the US thrived after WW2 by not having any large scale infrastructure damage. War torn areas force people to become more caring and work together. Being isolated and never having directly experienced war caused a reinforcement of exceptionalism and individualism. I think a war on its soil would do a large amount to change peoples mindsets.

Edit: just a reminder unpopular opinions should be upvoted.

I once heard “to keep your tailgate from being stolen” but that seems like it’d be a rare case.

So this may be the wrong place to ask, but I’m curious if anyone has ever heard of headhunters that work for a candidate? Almost every recruiter and firm that I’ve seen only works on behalf of a company, or only cares if you match a role that they’re searching for.

I’ve always wondered if there are services were people will search on your behalf. Paid is fine as it is a pain now with everything being distilled down with AI.

I’ve seen 4 site on FB (I know I know) all offering the same exact item (a mag safe adjustable phone stand that can clip to things or has a tripod and adjusts). They are literally all the same thing for the same price. I would assume they’re from the same manufacturer. So how can I find out which is the real source, or does it matter and just pick one.

So I’m looking for a new set of beard/other clippers as my current one finally fell apart after almost 20 years. I’m looking for a professional, corded one that you can put different size guards on. So Lemmy Men, what are you using?

So I’ll be traveling in such a way that I’ll be crossing the US border. I want to take a burner phone so I can wipe it, or have innocuous enough data. The problem: all my passwords are stored in a password manager that uses 2FA tied to my primary phone which will be sitting at home (along with other sites that use 2FA tied to authenticators on my phone).

So remembering passwords is out. And not having access to 2FA presents a catch-22. So what’s the best way to approach that?

I’d like to join you guys on your side of the pond, but i need to look for an in. Im willing to figure out the legalities, etc, but first and foremost I’d need a job. Do you guys have any suggestions for job boards to use that focus on EU countries? Specific focus in the technical field is a plus.

What age would you choose? Mentally you still keep growing and you keep your normal life span. Also, what age are you currently?

I’ve seen some friends that keep their places like caves; all curtains and blinds closed with maybe some lights on. Some even going so far as to put up foil and completely blocking out light. I like having blinds and curtains open with maybe just a sheer curtain to diffuse the light but I enjoy it being bright. So how do you like your space lit with natural light?

Has it also been affecting the price of chicken? I know that egg prices were a sticking point from the election so there’s a focus on that, but if it’s an avian flu that’s affecting chickens, would that also cause the price of any chicken product to go up? I feel like I haven’t heard anything around meat prices going up.
