yeah, they might not be therapists, but to start pontificating at someone you're supposed to care about instead of listening to them and having a conversation? that's just being a bad friend. it doesn't just feel dismissive, it is dismissive. op's friend was not engaging with how they feel and what they're going through, they're telling op how they want them to be. and you can absolutely "get it right." you can listen, engage and commiserate. show sympathy and empathy.

I've been on the receiving end of several of those talks and let me tell you most of those people never gave a shit to begin with. the rest are just bad at communicating. just because it's normal doesn't mean it's good.

we can all do better, be better.

Yeah like I agree with the thought but the mail is kinda sacred.

I'm not well versed in this but I was under the assumption that anyone who worked 32 or more hours was eligible for some kind of insurance through their employer, which is why so many people are stuck at 31 hours a week.

aluminum is stable in the sense that the outer layer oxidizes rapidly and prevents the rest of the metal from reacting with anything. the reason thermite is so exothermic is because of massive amount of surface area provide by the powdered metal. a chunk of aluminum simply isn't dangerous.

I feel kind of bad for the mom. The woman was an industrial engineer and ended up losing her kids due to drug use? I feel like there's a couple steps we're missing there and I can't imagine any of them are pretty.

I agree with a lot of your points, however, outdoor cats are really bad for local wildlife, so from a purely utilitarian standpoint there's less animal suffering by keeping them inside. And they're not slaves, we don't force them into labor under penalty of death. You could argue for prisoners i suppose.

We fostered some feral kittens and I was worrying about the same stuff, restricting freedom and such, and then there was a big storm w hail and I went down to check on the kittens and they were cozy as hell.

There's more to it than just deprivation. One of ours is the baby of a feral momma but our lil girl has never seen a hard day in her life, no outside, no shelters. And seeing how much personality she has just melts my heart.
