Never having finished Control, I thought it was going to be from Mass Effect ... Which I also never finished, but I've seen the memes.

My pleasure! I had some very similar experiences; glad to spread the joy.

Better not let it talk to Cyclops or it will fly itself into the sun.

Once I was reading a book in a hot tub, only to see a spider crawling towards me immediately above the water line. I instinctively swatted it away, forgetting that I was already using the swatting hand to hold a book.

The book splashed in the water as I moved my hand, but the book in question was American Assassin. In my mind, making it unreadable was an improvement rather than spoilage.

In case you're unaware, bash.org appears to be kaput, but both https://qdb.lol/ and https://bash-org-archive.com/ exist in case you want to relive the old days.

Neither appears to have their own search function, but I was able to search at least qdb.lol using the site: operator in DDG.

I'm surprised that no app I've ever used has censored hunter2 as an Easter egg.

edit: Correct typo.

I heard this story from a third party, so I can't prove it's true, but supposedly the head of IT security at a previous job met his wife when she compromised his home network to get his attention.

Yes, and often the post I made doesn't show for me, even after refreshing. I have to back out of and re-enter the thread to see my post.

Funny - it's one of the few shows I was allowed to watch.

I can't find the exact quote, but you very nearly quoted Lisa Simpson here.

edit: Still can't find the exact quote, but it's from S20E17, "The Good, The Sad and The Drugly."

Is that the room you go to to practice dog sled racing?

Before last night I didn't even know my sister still painted. It's great that she does.

Nothing in my life has prepared me to answer that question, let alone to a 5-year-old.

They had an idea and they went with it.

Them: Knock knock!

Me: Who's there?

Them: Unicorn.

Me: Unicorn who?

Them: Unicorn. Unicorn. Stop saying unicorn.

edit: Line breaks.

Sorry if not.

I was on Reddit for a lot of years and enjoyed most of them, I really did. Almost all of that was through the Reddit is Fun app, it was one of the few apps I liked enough to pay for it.

I stopped opening RiF the day the API incident happened and I switched to here (using Connect, after some experimentation, because the UX was most similar to RiF). I wasn't confident we would gain enough users to make it worthwhile to switch, but I wanted to try and I didn't want to support spez. Just this morning I told my wife that we probably had several thousand users, then a few hours later I saw a post saying we had almost 1.5 million. That's amazing!

I struggled a bit with Lemmy when I started using it, but either Lemmy or I evolved - probably both - and now it's a wonderful experience to open every day. Y'all are great and I appreciate your presence.

edit: Probably should have said it in the original message, but in case it wasn't explicit: thank you all.
