NodeBB 4.1.0 (community.nodebb.org)
submitted 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) by julian@community.nodebb.org to c/nodebb-development@community.nodebb.org

We just released version 4.1.0 of NodeBB. Here are the latest features you can now take advantage of!

As an aside, for the first time in a long while, both @baris and I are working on the same codebase again. Up until version 4 was released, I'd been working on the activitypub branch and periodically merging in the latest changes from develop. It's nice to be home! :house_with_garden:

Improved federation of Group actors :left_speech_bubble:

We've improved the activity synchronization for followed group actors. Local updates/likes/etc. are now federated outward by the category in addition to those from remote users. Thanks to @rimu@piefed.social and @freamon who worked with me on debugging this one.

Mentions and Emoji now federating out in source.content

Emoji and mentions have been sent out to followers since v4, but that wasn't reflected in the raw markdown content that we also send along. That has been remediated now, and this change improves nodebb-to-nodebb federation.

Video object type now parseable :tv:

NodeBB is now able to ingest Peertube Video objects, and render then in a topic just like other pieces of content. Thanks @deadsuperhero@forum.wedistribute.org for prodding me to get this sorted out!

Glitch is teasing an announcement of something coming tomorrow, July 18th. The above image was posted to their socials yesterday [YT Community / Twitter / Nitter mirror]

A couple days ago they also posted this teaser video [YT Community / Twitter / Nitter mirror]:

Multiple short clips of close-ups of Ken and Mel's faces, specifically their mouths. The mouths are moving as if speaking of laughing, but the video is silent. A banner overlays the clips with text in a rune-like script

The text translates to "A PULSE WAS DETECTED"

To me, that seems like a reference to the not-so-angelic egg at the end of the pilot, so my money is on either an Episode 2 announcement/trailer or a more generic full season announcement/trailer

A joint international operation, known as Eastwood and coordinated by Europol and Eurojust, targeted the cybercrime network NoName057(16). Law enforcement and judicial authorities from Czechia, France, Finland, Germany, Italy, Lithuania, Poland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands and the United States took simultaneous actions against offenders and infrastructure belonging to the pro-Russian cybercrime network. The investigation was also supported by ENISA, as well as Belgium, Canada, Estonia, Denmark, Latvia, Romania and Ukraine. The private parties ShadowServer and abuse.ch also assisted in the technical part of the operation.

The actions led to the disruption of an attack-infrastructure consisting of over one hundred computer systems worldwide, while a major part of the group's central server infrastructure was taken offline. Germany issued six warrants for the arrest of offenders living in the Russian Federation. Two of these persons are accused of being the main instigators responsible for the activities of "NoName057(16)". In total, national authorities have issued seven arrest warrants, which are directed, inter alia, against six Russian nationals for their involvement in the NoName057(16) criminal activities. All of the suspects are listed as internationally wanted, and in some cases, their identities are published in media. Five profiles were also published on the EU Most Wanted website.

  • 2 arrests (1 preliminary arrest in France and 1 in Spain)
  • 7 arrest warrants issued (6 by Germany, and 1 by Spain)
  • 24 house searches (2 in Czechia, 1 in France, 3 in Germany, 5 in Italy, 12 in Spain, 1 in Poland)
  • 13 individuals questioned (2 in Germany, 1 in France 4 in Italy, 1 in Poland, 5 in Spain)
  • Over 1 000 supporters, 15 of which administrators, notified for their legal liability via a messaging app

YT Industries GmbH has initiated a legal restructuring process under German law, entering into self-administration to secure the company's future.

In a press release from YT Industries, the German-based brand said "despite strong global growth and a loyal customer base", it has been "severely impacted by the global discounting battle in the bike industry, problems with suppliers and uncertainty in the US market related to tariff policies." YT Industries said it was "compelled" to enter legal restructuring proceedings under self-administration as the company has "no further funding available under the current structure."

Markus Flossmann, founder and CEO of YT Industries, said it was "not an easy step for YT, but a necessary measure to actively shape the future of the brand." Flossmann added: "We are already in discussions with potential new partners and are confident that we'll be back on track soon."

Currently, YT Industries remains fully operational with business continuing as normal during the restructuring process. Customer service and warranty support continue to be available and new product launches are still on track to launch in the coming months.

For any further support, YT Industries said its customer support can still be reached through email and the North American entity of YT is unaffected.

Simply create a wild patch, record its location online and encourage much-needed natural insect prey and nesting materials for native hedgehogs

This July, gardeners, families and individuals are being urged to create wild patches as part of a new campaign to make more spaces with natural insect food and nesting materials for native hedgehogs.

The new ‘Go WILD for Hedgehogs’ campaign from Hedgehog Street – run by wildlife charities People’s Trust for Endangered Species (PTES) and The British Hedgehog Preservation Society (BHPS) – simply involves leaving a wild, undisturbed patch in a garden and recording its location online. Not only does this create much-needed food and shelter for hedgehogs, but also tells conservationists at PTES and BHPS where hedgehog havens are, and where more are needed.

A pair of peregrine falcon chicks have fledged their nest at a newly constructed box on a water tower.

Cameras at BT's Adastral Park in Martlesham near Ipswich captured an unorthodox take-off by the first to leave, a male bird.

Raptor expert Peter Merchant said the chicks had survived "against the odds" and were the offspring of birds that had been regularly seen fighting.

Their eggs took 44 days to hatch - far longer than the expected 33 days.

You're telling me that a live service game with a strict "you had to be there" mindset is failing to on board new players? No!

Ecologist Sally-Ann Hurry from Mountfield Ecology was commissioned by Tarmac to carry out a bat assessment of a property near Rochester in Kent. The results of this assessment would inform how bats needed to be considered in the proposed maintenance and repair work.

During the building inspection, a small number of bat droppings were found within the roof void. Sally-Ann collected a sample of the most recent droppings and submitted them to Ecotype Genetics for DNA sequencing, which would confirm to which bat species they belonged to.

The results came in and, to everyone’s surprise, they were identified as belonging to the rare grey long-eared bat! To be absolutely certain of this result, the sample was re-tested and the results came back the same. The bat droppings in this Rochester property were definitely from a grey long-eared bat. This species is currently listed as Endangered in the IUCN Red List for British Mammals,

Sales of newly built homes in Russia tumbled in the first half of 2025 as the end of a popular mortgage subsidy program and high borrowing costs pushed many buyers out of the market.

According to a report published Tuesday by the state-owned financial institution Dom.RF, sales of new residential developments fell 26% year-on-year between January and June, totaling just 10.4 million square meters sold.

The downturn coincides with the July 2024 closure of Russia’s flagship state-supported mortgage program, which had allowed buyers to secure loans at 8%.

Analysts at Dom.RF also reported a staggering 66% drop in mortgage issuance in June compared to the same month last year, though they predicted that figure represented a low point, with the pace of decline expected to ease starting in July.

[...]

Russia’s Central Bank reports that nearly nine out of 10 mortgages issued this spring were backed by government subsidy programs.

The "family mortgage" program offered to families with children accounted for 88% of subsidized loans issued in June.
