Just wanted to share a thread for those who don't regularly venture out of the bear site. Can't cross-post since it's defederated. It's small but has some numbers about community counts, active users, etc and links to more info from https://lemmyverse.net/. Thought it was notable that Hexbear shows up no matter how you sort it.

OP image is community count sorted by active users in the last month.

Edit: sorted by comments

Half the thread is "I have never interacted with Hexbear but they are literally the worst instance and I'm so surprised they exist"

The funniest part of that is all the people who think we're a bunch of uneducated kids who base our opinions on nothing, while fully admitting they have never interacted with us at all. Yes I see. Tell me more about making opinions on something you know nothing about bean-think

[–] hypercracker@hexbear.net 71 points 1 month ago (4 children)

yeah the accusations that we were born after 9/11 just do not hit, all reddit-styled forums (especially the fediverse) are skewed toward olds

[–] zed_proclaimer@hexbear.net 47 points 1 month ago (3 children)

CTH is famously an elder millennial fanbase too. Average Chapo fan age is certainly higher than the average Reddit user age

[–] PaulSmackage@hexbear.net 35 points 1 month ago (3 children)

I remember the thread where we just posted Bush-era image macros. It's just the continuation of Something Awful - Twitter - here.

They say that because we post like zoomers and gen-a (not really we just aren't baffled by their memes).

[–] ShimmeringKoi@hexbear.net 47 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

In the vein of "only a Chinese or Russian person could be disagreeing with me right now about China or Russia" comes the new "only one of those dang kids today could be disagreeing with me right now about how kids today suck."

[–] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 34 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (1 children)

My favorite thing is them believing that everyone from Russia or China must have hated it there, and while there are some expats that are like that, most of the ones I've met (outside of Indians) really like or miss their country of origin. I'm not saying they are perfect (far from it) but they seem like no more totalitarian hellholes than the U.S.

[–] zed_proclaimer@hexbear.net 37 points 1 month ago (5 children)

Also you are talking to ex pats and emigrants who are predisposed to disliking their home country.

All the Chinese people who really like China stay there and don’t go on the English speaking internet to argue

I’m a zoomer though what abt me :,’,(

BEGONE CHILD! Let the old gays, trans-femmes and occasional cis white guys post in peace!

Sidenote; Also zoomers are literally starting to graduate college rn, so still young but not like, 14 year old teenager young, the real big thing is that we, unlike .world or .trek, are not, for the most part, tech people. And if we are, we are usually tech-pessimists. Creates a huge posting culture difference.

How the fuck do they sell that lie to themselves the entire discussion around isreal Palestine was basically "Jesus christ I haven't seen liberals this bloodthirsty to kill innocent brown people since 2001"

Were also the only people that seem to rember that reoublican presidents were fascists before 2016.

[–] roux@hexbear.net 31 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Lol Jesus Christ, Reagan was president when I was born. chomsky-yes-honey

I would assume most Hexbears are at least in their mid 20s, if not early 30s. I know we even have some older folks. Hexbear is many things, but a community of edgy teens is not one of them.

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 62 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Not that I have an account on Hexbear, but I spend a lot of time here (and enjoy it). I'm mid-forties, college degree, well-traveled (mostly North America, Europe and Asia). I have only grown more frustrated with liberals the older I get.

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 47 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Consider making an account here. I used to be on .ml, found myself spending most of my time here, and made an account. You can split time, or just stay here.

Personally, I enjoy my time here much more.

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 45 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I've considered it. I don't really want to have multiple accounts, and for better or for worse, .ml is still more broadly federated.

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 42 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That's fair! I do consider the benefits of not having constant struggle sessions like on .ml to outweigh a decrease in content. If the best content and comrades are federated with Hexbear, and the worst aren't, the good posts we lose are worth the tradeoff for me.

[–] electric_nan@lemmy.ml 34 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Helps keep your mind healthier too, I'm sure, not having to see the kind of garbage posted every 10 minutes on .world.

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 33 points 1 month ago

Yep, my thoughts exactly. Do what you want to, of course, but just want to put it out there that I was in your shoes and don't regret jumping. I still check in on .ml every once in a while, but I don't spend all my time fighting libs in the trenches anymore.

[–] kristina@hexbear.net 53 points 1 month ago (4 children)

I'm old as fuck no comment on specifics tho

[–] roux@hexbear.net 24 points 1 month ago

Old as fuck gang!

We may be one of the few chronically online forum communities that isn't made up primarily of either teenagers, tech-bros or retirees.

[–] Greenleaf@hexbear.net 35 points 1 month ago

Early thirties, sure. Yes… that will do side-eye-1

[–] quarrk@hexbear.net 29 points 1 month ago

Hexbear is many things, but a community of edgy teens is not one of them.

Disgruntled 30-somethings are a force to be reckoned with

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 29 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago) (2 children)

Time marches on, it's been 10 years since the subreddit went down, we're all big boys now

[–] Collatz_problem@hexbear.net 56 points 1 month ago

No investigation, no right to speak.

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 52 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That's what happens when you defed, you don't actually see what's behind Lemmy.world's Iron Dome and vibes become myths become "facts."

[–] zed_proclaimer@hexbear.net 34 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Same happened after CTH got banned. Tons of lies and myths instantly started cropping up about the devilish things that were once posted on CTH but could no longer be accessed. Everyone who hated Chapo was free to just make shit up and everyone believed it

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 30 points 1 month ago

Something something Parenti Quote

[–] miz@hexbear.net 28 points 1 month ago (2 children)

did you know that Hexbears worship TransComrade69 as a goddess and sincerely believe she does not poop?

[–] zed_proclaimer@hexbear.net 26 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I heard the SeventyTwoTrillion takes people with rational Liberal common sense to a stadium full of tankies and shoots them with an anti-aircraft gun

[–] zed_proclaimer@hexbear.net 45 points 1 month ago (3 children)

We are all just “trolls”

Like they think we are over here just pretending to be communists or what? Do they think we don’t hold the positions we talk about?

[–] Cowbee@hexbear.net 46 points 1 month ago

Legitimately, yes. They can never explain why we recommend Theory and meme about it, except the ones who think we are wreckers (somehow even amongst ourselves).

[–] Infamousblt@hexbear.net 34 points 1 month ago

How could Hexbear be communist if we don't guzzle propaganda from the most communist nation that has ever existed; The United States of America?

[–] GalaxyBrain@hexbear.net 31 points 1 month ago (1 children)

And with this level of persistence and volume?

[–] mathemachristian@hexbear.net 28 points 1 month ago (7 children)

Thats where the russian bot thing come froms

We are more well read than just about every single frothing liberal and chud lemmitor. Not that that’s a high bar to clear or anything.

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 24 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I read state and revolution 1 and a half times

[–] corgiwithalaptop@hexbear.net 23 points 1 month ago (1 children)

I've said it before and I'll say it again - reading one piece of leftist theory makes you more politically educated than like 90% of Americans.

Bit sad innit

[–] AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 20 points 1 month ago (2 children)
