It just fits the characters the hosts played so perfectly lol. Hammond the Hobbit like mediocre British guy, Clarkson the unruly dumb brute, and May the only one with any actual brains or accomplishments outside of TV, even if he was captain slow and always got lost.
A lot of the humour in the show has aged poorly and was clearly targeted at pre-teen and teenage boys, but there are still some really funny parts of it.
I liked Top Gear a lot 10+ years ago and was surprised when I discovered how many Brits absolutely fucking despised the show, lol
To me it was on par with Mythbusters as reliably entertaining TV slop but as a foreigner I didn't realise how obnoxious Clarkson is as a real life public figure
I thought Jeremy Clarkson played Jeremy Clarkson on TV. I was sorely disappointed that Jeremy Clarkson was Jeremy Clarkson.
Same, I grew up watching Top Gear and the Mythbusters throughout the 2000s and into the early 2010s, it was great TV for me as a kid.
