Little fingers in your lungs which passively sweep out stuff that makes its way in. They will be immobile for several days after being stunned by smoke.
Also smoking can pop or clog alveoli, which is a quick shortcut to infection. They cannot grow back, so your cardiopulmonary system will permanently be a tiny bit less efficient forever.
Thank you for the explanation, I didn't know about the risk to alveoli either. Very informative.
