Welcome to the discussion of US Politics!

Rules:

  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

Live in a red county, it's everywhere. Go to the small town high schools. Trump and confederate, and lifted trucks absolutely everywhere.

And good lord, the mullets.

[–] 6daemonbag@lemmy.dbzer0.com 27 points 1 year ago (4 children)

It was a mildly funny meme but jfc they just can't let it go. They latch onto anything and sew it into their American flags

[–] PsychedSy@sh.itjust.works 17 points 1 year ago

Covfefe.

Politics being a team sport is fucking cancer.

I work with people who still make Clinton/Lewinsky jokes.

I just saw it on a hat and a shirt recently. Out in public. Do these people think that others are going to engage with them? Or is it just virtue-signaling to other deplorables? Do they have to explain to younger children that their shirt is a cute way of saying the word FUCK?

[–] abbotsbury@lemmy.world 18 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Or is it just virtue-signaling

Yep

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

TIL, Russia just being a messy contrarian.

[–] abbotsbury@lemmy.world 0 points 1 year ago

That's obviously not what the image is suggesting and you are blatantly looking for a reason to be upset.

I was in Phoenix camping this spring. When I was on a short local hike to a waterfall I came across a family wearing MAGA hats. The fresh out of the trailer park attire to match.

One of the young boys had a Brandon hat on while the other had a "let's go Brandon" shirt. I would have guessed they were 5 and 7. I wasn't even interested in saying hi as we passed on the trail and they weren't interested either.

I find it hard to find clothes without any branding for myself. I swear identity by politics has replaced sports team apparel for many now. The sport team flags that use to hang as curtains in those trailer parks have been replaced by Trump flags now. Those flag makers must be making a killing...

The sad thing is that donnie won't do a thing for such people. Not one single thing.

I've tried to see the fun in it but it's just so shallow I wouldn't be able to keep it up for more than... two days? The Dark Brandon thing seems like a great idea to make fun of how childish they are without costing more than 1 energy

[–] neardeaf@lemm.ee 18 points 1 year ago

It’s shit like this that makes me so damn thankful I graduated high school in 2011 and not anytime 2016 and onward. I’d be so fucking sick of all the new Trumpers.

[–] Grant_M@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 year ago

Ahh... so the "Let's go Brandon" and "F*ck Trudeau" people ARE INDEED the same people.

[–] GladiusB@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Who the hell is Brandon? I don't even remember his name. Such a dumb slogan.

[–] Hoomod@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I think it was a Nascar race or something, and the crowd was chanting "fuck Joe Biden", and the commentators tried to cover it by saying they were chanting "let's go Brandon" because the driver in the lead was Brandon (something)

[–] ImpossibleRubiksCube@programming.dev 16 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

Just chanting that in unison... you know... like normal functional people do... 🙄

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Just changing that in unison… you know… like normal functional people do…

That's exactly right. They think mindlessly repeating something that gross is a normal thing. The state of the GOP today.

[–] UnderpantsWeevil@lemmy.world 6 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Mindlessly repeating a gross thing IS normal human behavior, as any high schooler could tell you

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago

It's kind of instructive that the cons seem to not have advanced past the high school phase.

[–] Case@unilem.org 1 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

At a NASCAR race, a bastion of redneckery, a person on camera said Fuck Joe Biden, and the reporter said something along the lines of Let's Go Brandon, I suppose mishearing the person in a loud venue and/or confusing it for a driver.

It stuck and Let's go Brandon became a tongue in cheek way of voicing their displeasure with our current president.

On the other side...

Any time Biden has done anything progressive or to stymie the GoP it is his "Dark Brandon" persona that the internet created.

Basically dems flipped the meme, or at least tried to and it became a memetic way to celebrate perceived victories over the GoP, as I understand it.
