Chat is a text only community for casual conversation, please keep shitposting to the absolute minimum. This is intended to be a separate space from c/chapotraphouse or the daily megathread. Chat does this by being a long-form community where topics will remain from day to day unlike the megathread, and it is distinct from c/chapotraphouse in that we ask you to engage in this community in a genuine way. Please keep shitposting, bits, and irony to a minimum.

As with all communities posts need to abide by the code of conduct, additionally moderators will remove any posts or comments deemed to be inappropriate.

Thank you and happy chatting!

You're not wrong. We were/are probably just as bad from outside.

People posting totally unprompted "we call it skeets if you don't like it you can leave" and "we block here" and similar culture enforcement stuff is just grating. They're trying to establish a distinct culture from twitter but at least what I'm seeing it already is just twitter is nearly every sense so it comes off as very forced.

Mastodon was a lot like this early on as well. I remember a lot of self-righteousness around not being on the “birdsite” and people insisting that posts be called “toots”. Eventually it calmed down, I think because other people started pointing out how obnoxious it was lol. Similarly, mastodon ended up having a lot of the same problems as twitter anyways.
