What if Teddy Ruxpin but he was infinitely more harmful for the climate??? so-true

This thing just made the news in Finland after the app refused to work for everyone that had bought the bear on Christmas Eve hahaha

That aside, this shit is just grim. One, having fucking ChatGPT regurgitate some reconstituted literary pink slime to your children instead of just reading them a story book. Lower the kids' standards and get them acclimated to AI garbage nice and early desolate

Two, this shit is destined to be e-waste in two months when the app stops being updated

Your second point is right-on, but on your first point, kids do not give a single fuck about the quality of the media they consume. They don't know better. Honestly I'm not convinced that AI slop kids-content will be any more generic than what we already show them.

Nah, there are a lot of really great children's books out there for parents with the wherewithal to find them. Julia Donaldson and Oliver Jeffers for example

Yeah there's good children's media, but do the kids actually care?

[–] AnarchoAnarchist@hexbear.net 5 points 1 day ago

The kid might not care, but these are important and formative years. They are learning how stories work, how to process stories and pull the information they want, how to form their own stories.

This is the psychological equivalent of giving an infant Coca-Cola. Kids who ingest this garbage, this "highly processed corn-based snack" of the mind, will be stunted compared to the kids whose parents were willing to spend time around their spawn.

Ime while marketing has a huge influence, kids can actually tell the difference between a meaningful story and a series of events cobbled together, and will gravitate towards the former. Also, parenting involves a degree of curation!
