the Scots have been Britains willing dogs for most of the century

Obviously peaky blinders isn't a historical documentary but I got the distinct impression from it that the Scots were eager to join the fascists in WW2; was wondering if that correlated to actual history.

I don't think they were particularly inclined to fascism more than England. There are lots of noteworthy Scottish communists from that time too. Just as there were English communists.

That's my point really - they're not as different as they like to think, even if Scots n English supposedly hate each other. Scotland has been under English rule for about 3-4 centuries.

It's true to say they've often had the hard end of the stick from England, but so did everywhere else North of London IN England. Scotland is just north of northern England.

Just like in England there were also Scottish nazis. Rudolph Hess crash landed in Scotland trying to negotiate with the Duke of Hamilton during the war. You also had some Scottish nationalists who were eager to join the nazis against the communists and capitalists of England. But you can probably find similar in England if you do a cursory look (other than the Hess landing, that is pretty unique).

Scotland has way too good a rep compared to England given that they were eager participants in the crimes of empire.
