Wait did Liz really do clown work?

[–] FunkyStuff@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago

AFAIK it was 100% true.

[–] TheLepidopterists@hexbear.net 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I don't know where the clown Liz emoji came from

[–] boiledfrog@hexbear.net 20 points 1 day ago (2 children)

She said something about it once but I thought it was a joke.

Clowning is one of the highest art forms tbh

RIP Bozo, but kitty-birthday-sad

Not enough ready to acknowledge that, unfortunately.

[–] boiledfrog@hexbear.net 2 points 1 day ago

My comapnion used to work for a clown festival with multiple days of clowns doing street theater, it was really great.

[–] lil_tank@hexbear.net 12 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I'm so out of the loop, who's liz?

[–] TheLepidopterists@hexbear.net 18 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Brace and Liz are the two hosts of Trueanon, a podcast about, among other things, Jeffrey Epstein.

They did, IIRC, day by day coverage of Maxwell's trial.

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 1 day ago

Huh… I’m listening to TrueAnon right now hahaha

[–] lil_tank@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago

Thank you comrade 07

meanwhile, american journalists are erasing history

She sounds like she's talking about some teenager she outed for shoplifting or something. The stuff this guy was doing was so vile I don't think I can ever read his books again. He's still rich as hell too, he just has lost a lot of his fan base and will have difficulty selling new books. That's a fraction of what he's due.

Jesus. It’s really disappointing how many men just can’t keep it in their pants or even have urges to do stuff like this in the first place

[–] Frogmanfromlake@hexbear.net 29 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Honestly never was a big fan of his books. His comics were pretty good though. Feeling only slightly vindicated for getting shit because I didn’t like American Gods.

American Gods lost all suspension of disbelief when Shadow Moon (ugh) ate three Culver's butterburgers and hopped back in his car for a long-ass road trip without an entire chapter dedicated to his subsequent befouling of a rest stop with greasier shits than the time Mr. Wednesday accidentally got into the mistletoe. It was in that moment that I realized that Neil Gaiman was a hack who only did cursory research.

And god damn him for tainting Good Omens.

[–] Wheaties@hexbear.net 43 points 1 day ago

as funny as "member of the british press shocked to discover actions have consequences" sounds, I kinda think this more to preempt any libel suits from Gaiman

[–] CrawlMarks@hexbear.net 41 points 1 day ago

So it wasn't to expose the situation. It was, as upper class people, to stay up to date on innovations in their favorite subejct. Sex crimes.

[–] AntifaSuperWombat@hexbear.net 71 points 1 day ago

No fucking way! I just found out that this is BoJo’s sister. No wonder she doesn’t give a shit about SA victims. bojo

Who would be left in British society if every SAer was cancelled.

Corbyn, hopefully?

some, I assume, are good people

The Irish, about 2/3 of the Scots, and all the Welsh if we disclude assaults against sheep.

[–] WittyProfileName2@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago (1 children)

all the Welsh if we disclude assaults against sheep.

We don't even have that anymore. Most of the farms've been bought up by rich saes fleeing the idea of maybe being in the same place as someone who isn't white.

[–] OprahsedCreature@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago

Damn, the Welsh just can't catch a break

[–] MaoTheLawn@hexbear.net 15 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Irish Catholics not guilty of SA you say? And the protestants are just English, so they're guilty too. And the Scots have been Britains willing dogs for most of the century, even being disproportionately represented in the slave trade.

Wales is alright

[–] Evilsandwichman@hexbear.net 10 points 1 day ago (2 children)

the Scots have been Britains willing dogs for most of the century

Obviously peaky blinders isn't a historical documentary but I got the distinct impression from it that the Scots were eager to join the fascists in WW2; was wondering if that correlated to actual history.

[–] MaoTheLawn@hexbear.net 2 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago)

I don't think they were particularly inclined to fascism more than England. There are lots of noteworthy Scottish communists from that time too. Just as there were English communists.

That's my point really - they're not as different as they like to think, even if Scots n English supposedly hate each other. Scotland has been under English rule for about 3-4 centuries.

It's true to say they've often had the hard end of the stick from England, but so did everywhere else North of London IN England. Scotland is just north of northern England.

[–] Barabas@hexbear.net 9 points 1 day ago

Just like in England there were also Scottish nazis. Rudolph Hess crash landed in Scotland trying to negotiate with the Duke of Hamilton during the war. You also had some Scottish nationalists who were eager to join the nazis against the communists and capitalists of England. But you can probably find similar in England if you do a cursory look (other than the Hess landing, that is pretty unique).

Scotland has way too good a rep compared to England given that they were eager participants in the crimes of empire.

[–] OprahsedCreature@lemmy.ml 4 points 1 day ago

Irish Catholics not guilty of SA you say?

That's mostly the priests, who come and go from all over. Ireland actually probably has a lower percentage of assaults from priests because until homosexuality was more accepted in society at large that was a place where a lot of gay men went to be relatively safe.

And the Scots have been Britains willing dogs for most of the century

Considering how many Scots seemed ready to go independent recently, I think they may disagree. I think Scotland doesn't have a huge economy on its own either so historically mercenary work was what kept them relatively safe from the English, but I don't think they're happy about that state of affairs.

And the protestants are just English, so they're guilty too

Which is why I don't count them among the Irish

[–] ButtBidet@hexbear.net 61 points 1 day ago

Definitely not defending her, but I suspect that some publishers told her that this means that millions of books won't get sold, and that they're gonna remember when she wants to get another job.

This is going to have a chilling effect on future news reports of SA.

[–] Ram_The_Manparts@hexbear.net 56 points 1 day ago (1 children)

You have to be fucking kidding

[–] FlakesBongler@hexbear.net 48 points 1 day ago

When I exposed him for his terrible behavior, I didn't think that would mean people would stop liking him!
