Russian agent in White House put tariff on Aluminum from neighboring very hostile country Canada, and plans to get it very cool and very legal from Russia instead.
The Russian agent has allegedly been identified, but Americans have decided it's OK to have Russian agents in the White House now.

What really concerns me, is that even here in Germany i hear people saying "eh, Trump is ok, at least he's doing something".

It's not only a few that think like this and it's always the same people that are anti vaccine, anti trans rights, anti woke.

I don't like this timeline anymore, but the reset button isn't working...

It was pretty eye-opening when I was in Germany and Austria a couple years ago and heard people parroting the EXACT right-wing taking points I hear in the States.

There are always the 10% idiots, unfortunately AfD somehow got 20% of the vote.
The people who love fascism think it's their chance now. But they are mistaken. Europe is not giving in to that again.

But they are mistaken. Europe is not giving in to that again.

how do you have so much faith? if you look at the Nazi elections it went something like

~2.5% ⇒ ~5% ⇒ 10% ⇒ 20% ⇒ 30something% ⇒ dictatorship

if you look at AfD it's following s similar pattern and we're currently at 20something%

Looking at past history, just one more successful election cycle and the far-right can consolidate and eliminate any democratic opposition

I'm guessing by Nazi elections you are referring to the pre WW2 elections, where the NSDP took power without a majority.

The difference now in for instance Germany is that AfD is by far most popular in a small segment of the country. And even if AfD get 30% they will not be able to take exclusive control, probably not even be able to get into government.

I agree it's worrying that AfD is so popular, and it does indicate a problem in Germany that needs to be addressed.
My guess is they are popular because the former East Germany part feel overlooked, and that too many resources are used on refugees/immigrants.
Something Denmark has warned about on a European scale for more than a decade.
We simply haven't figured out a working framework to keep receiving more and more immigrants from non Western countries, for a variety of reasons.
And the worst off in society believe they are the ones to foot the bill, because the poor don't get much share in our increased wealth. But the truth is most of our increased wealth is going to those that already have more than they need.

We need to for instance stop giving more tax benefits to the rich, and have a better balance in how the wealth of our society is distributed. Fascism sucks at doing that, but without an alternative on the left, that's where the protest votes will go. Because they promise to "solve" what the less well off perceive to be a huge part of the problem.

Where in Germany did you hear that junk? Somewhere in the east?

[–] kamenlady@lemmy.world 1 points 14 hours ago

[–] curbstickle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 day ago (1 children)

As an american, a slight correction.

Read Next: about 40% of Americans puzzled about why nobody likes them anymore. Another 40% puzzled about why anyone still likes them. 20% didn't understand the question, and refused to elaborate.

[–] brrt@lemm.ee 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

The second 40% is puzzled why Russia likes them? Do they life under a stone or stmh?

[–] curbstickle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think you've misunderstood who the everyone else is - its the rest of the world, not Russia.

[–] brrt@lemm.ee 1 points 11 hours ago (1 children)

Dude do you think in Arabic countries anyone beside Israel & in Europe anyone besides Russia likes Amerika nowadays? You can go on with South America and Afrika & Australia. Now how many countries may like you at the time?

[–] curbstickle@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 10 hours ago (1 children)

There are people yes, and thats kind of the point of the comment...
