The kid's own fault?

Now I'd ask what they teach in US driver ed, but I know that that's not a thing there. I wonder if they even have a "theory" exam where they'd ask you stuff like "What will you do if you see a child?" or "Do you have the right to run over anyone not on the sidewalk?"

I also love how they're equating a child's literal life with their own social standing and ability to command a 2-ton projectile on wheels.

The book we're supposed to read before taking any tests does say that drivers should do everything they possibly can to avoid hitting a pedestrian. Even if someone walks into the road right in front of you, you don't have the "right" to run them over if you can avoid it. Of course, that's not the mindset of many drivers.

I mean if a kid suddenly runs into a road its their fault, happens, they may not swerve or stop in time. Forget kids, a couple years ago I was a passenger when a dude looked both ways and then walked directly in front of our car and launched into the windshield in front of me, (thank god that shit held i had glass all over my leg but he didnt go through it) like it was definitely his fault and no avoding it, he walked out instantly infront of the car. I watched it in slow motion, could feel my mouth opening to say something as it happened, way too fast.
